Did you know Count Dooku had a last name? Thousands of years before his birth, his homeworld was under the control of the Sith Empire. Eight of the world’s greatest families rallied against the Sith under the banner of House Serenno, and they routed their enemy without the aid of the Jedi. To honor the victorious heroes, the planet was renamed to Serenno, and *House* Serenno ruled over it. Dooku was part of that lineage, so his full name is technically Dooku Serenno.

I thought Dooku was his last name. Leroy Dooku.

Serenno's history in the era of the Old Republic is one of the best things in Dooku: Jedi Lost. It adds more tragedy to the downfall of its last count to the dark side on a planet that freed itself from the Sith Empire long ago.

I always assumed Dooku was the surname.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who thought Dooku WAS his last name

A section of the fandom uses Yan as his first name. Yan dooku. I thought this was canon for so long and I think a lot of people in that section of the fandom did

I like how this completely mirrors Palpatine, with one only going by their surname and all but abandoning their given name while the other completely abandons the family name and only going by the name he was given at birth.
It’s like poetry, it rhymes.

I thought his full name was Count Dooku _of_ Serenno?

You know I never really thought about this, but Dooku being his first name does make a lot of sense.

Seeing as we call the british monarch for example "King Charles" and not "King Windsor", I dont know how I never really thought about how with royal titles your first name becomes the most commonly used and recognizable.

Serenno is a lot cooler than yoda's being originally named "minch"

It’s so relieving to see all these comments saying they too thought Dooku was his surname. I always just assumed he didn’t have a canon first name but him being known as simply Dooku but technically being a Sereno makes way more sense considering the British royal family are simply known by their first names but are of House Windsor, meaning while he is known as King Charles he is, much like Dooku, technically Charles Windsor

“Don't think of it as a first name, but a singular name. The aristocracy of Serenno only use one name, but use the format Dooku of House Serenno, not Dooku Serenno.” - Cavan Scott
If Dooku was to use “Dooku Serenno”, it would be because he is Count of Serenno, not from the House Serenno, just like the Prince of Wales can either use Wales or Mountbatten-Windsor as his surname, but is from the House of Windsor

So why don’t they call him count serenno?

I may be remembering things wrongly I think in one canon novel Dooku went as far as to say to Qui Gon’s face that he couldn’t count on anyone.

It’s like Brianne of Tarth from Game of Thrones, she rarely uses her last name because Brianne Tarth of Tarth would sound silly.

The crazy part is this is supposedly how the royal family of the United Kingdom works, where because they're the last lineage of the house of Windsor. Technically every royal family's last name is Windsor. However, because they are like basically living gods in their country, no one ever a first of them as their last name. Hence why they are the king and queen instead of a king and queen

Some royal families would like to be addressed like for example Queen Elizabeth of the House of Windsor” instead of Queen Elizabeth Windsor

It’s possible Dooku would be referred as Count Dooku of Serreno, or Count Dooku of the the House of Serenno

I thought it was like Count Dracula, where Dooku was his last name.
