Ever since the Tales of the Jedi, I have always felt so bad for Dooku. I honestly feel worse for him than I do for Anakin because at least when he turned, Anakin had many friends who still cared about him and tried to drag him from the dark while Dooku had already lost everyone and everything he cared for in his life. He had nothing to lose when he joined Palpatine.

What made the situation even more unique/unprecedented was that the Grand Master of the Jedi Order generally never took a Padawan learner.

So, by taking Dooku as a Padawan, Yoda was kind of breaking tradition
