Parents Express Uncertainty, Confusion Over New York City’s Schools Reopening Plan: ‘What Do I Do?’

The updated plan to reopen New York City’s schools in the fall has left many parents feeling uncertain about what they should do next. CBS2's Dave Carlin reports.

If I had a school aged child, they would not be going to school until the pandemic danger is completely over. If I have to go to jail, then so be it.

When it comes to Junior High and High School students, it is easier to plan because they do not need as much adult supervision in addition they can take care of themselves being alone at home. The elementary schools students need fuller adult supervisions. The Junior High and High School students can do one day on site weekly and spend the remaining days remotely learning with each students having their own different schedules, however those with special needs and the ones that may be struggling with certain courses may need to be on site a little bit more days like 2-3 days weekly. The elementary school students need complete adult supervision and I would say the K-3 grades need to be in school fully with them all spread out and overlap some of the classes into auditoriums, lunchrooms, and gym rooms, but the 4th-5th graders can maybe do two days off site learning and three days on site learning. They should also seek out all the community centers for the elementary school students to do remote learning if they cannot get adult supervision at home. The libraries should open up spaces for the Junior High and High School students doing remote learning as optional spaces as there are some students living in conditions where it may not be comfortably suitable for them to do remote learning at home.
