I briefly discuss the top 3 reasons I learned from my Copart Auction boat purchase experience. Just my experience. I was not able to view boat beforehand because it was 1,220 miles away.

Well thank you for taking the time to film and post this video! It really sucks that copart has so many damn fees! I wasn't aware of that. Thank you for the heads up!

You should realize that the person who donates the boat is not the person who is making counter offers. Once the boat owner gives up the item, the charity is the Seller and they are the ones making the decision whether to approve a bid or not.

When your buying a Sea Ray like that for $600 or even $1200 you can pretty much rest assured it's shit. I've seen similar sites like this and I can say if anyone wants to give up any boat that's worth a shit they won't list it on there.

That boat needs a full gut down to the hull to restore. - couple hundred hours time plus supplies.I wouldn’t accept that boat for free - believe me I done one before. Stay away from fibreglass boats older than mid 90s they are all rotten!

I was considering buying one but after watching your video is not smart going that route for a boat that will only give you problems. Thank you for the video

I worked for Conpart that what we called it. On my first day I was told to make three accounts so I could bid in which I said I don't plain on buying anything. They told me it was so I could run up bids on items I thought where selling to cheap Copart is a big con game sure you may run into a deal but most of the time you're going to over pay.

Well, really, reason #1: They're junk. That's why they were in a junkyard. Looked at a few builders at copart over the years and passed on them all. No matter how desirable they were it was just too much money & trouble. Not to mention the hammer-headed way they handle them while they're in the yard. Many people note they do more damage to them moving them around than what was originally on the vehicle and since you bought it, it's your problem now.

People need to just stop buying from copart so they can fade into oblivion.

When the seller has 'approval' of the sale price, from what I have seen, if you negotiate up but they want more and you say 'no sale' the seller will often come back and accept your last offer (assuming it to be close enough to his last offer). To avoid this, stick with 'absolute' auctions where if you win...you win.

Hate to say it, but you got taken by the seller. The rotted floor is likely just the beginning. I would guess the stringers, or some of them are rotten, too. Those will be a major headache and/or expense to replace. All things marine are going to cost 50% or more than the automotive equivalent. The gel coat is chalked. It does have teak trim which will look really nice if sanded and correctly varnished; could get by with sanding and tung oil. I wish you the best of luck but to be honest, I wouldn't take the boat even if free.

Boat stands for ( break out another thousand) if you get your 1200 back call it a win

Copart was the one bidding u up. Not the owner of the boat. Because it was a donated boat.

I personally would have rejected the boat and refused to pay based off of undisclosed damages. They would have pissed and moaned but in the end they would have dealt with it. They know EXACTLY what they did. They know the boat is not only not worth anything but will cost a lot of money to dispose of. Also to add to my last post. Tow yards, impound yards, and storage facilities will "DONATE" this junk so they don't have to pay to dispose of boats, Rv's and other junk items. Oh PS everything in COPART is inspected by an intake person. They inspect, take pictures, verify if it started etc etc. They KNOW the exact condition, Choose to take pictures from angles that they do.

Did you do ANY research before buying from them? Nothing new here but good reality check for those that think they will find a gem for pennies..

Oh it get's better those fees are "bracket fees" meaning you pay 50 bucks on a sale from 0-200 dollars. 75 bucks on 200-400 dollars. 150 dollar fee on 400-1000 dollars etc you get the idea. The "counter bid" will ALWAYS bump up past that next fee schedule lol.... it's such a bs scam !!!

i hate to tell you now that’s usually why these things get donated by the owners because of the extensive damage most people don’t realize. that leaving a boat out in the sun and rain actually causes way more damage then they realize the fresh water rain. rots everything it gets into and often floods engine compartments that have dead or inoperable bite pumps so that water will seep into engines Stringers , you name it the only way you may come out well on one is if you can do all your own mechanical, Woodwork,Upohlstery yourself and you can purchase all the materials Wholesale and that’s really just a Maybe like if you get lucky enough to find a runner with a good dpropulsion system

Make a YouTube video of you towing it to the dump and you'll be better off making making a few dollars that way instead of a restoration.
