I've always said that older vehicles are easier to work on and are more dependable ! I'm 73 yrs.old and took three courses in mechanical engineering at Ohio University in the 1960's . The professor told our class that vehicles would be coming out in the future with on board computers and would be way less dependable and I've seen it come to fruition ! He wrote on the chalk board the first day of class the acronym of "KISS " and asked if anyone knew what it stood for ? No one knew and he said, " keep it simple, stupid !" He said that any mechanical system made more complicated than it needs to be, the less reliable it becomes ! I 've witnessed this over my 73 yrs. of life ! As a doctorate of mechanical engineering retired from General Motors he knew what he was talking about ! He's long gone since he was in his 60's yrs.of age and I was 18 yrs. of age BUT I have never forgot that man and not only his wisdom and intellect BUT his fore -thought of what was coming in the future ! I still drive cars over 25 yrs. old and have driven numerous cars over 300, 000 miles !!!! I maintain and change oil and filter religiously so I'm sure that's a big part of my cars longevity ! Finally I believe the old school autos are very much simpler and thus more reliable than any brand new cars !!!!

My 96 Ranger is immortal. The first odometer quit at 250k. It’s been through two more and the last odometer quit about 14 years ago. If I had to guess, it probably has 700 to 800, 000 miles. On its third clutch. Had the transmission rebuilt once and the 2.3 Lima has never been out or apart, just routine maintenance. Been commuting 100 mile round trip for about 10 years. The only time it was towed was a u joint decided to call it a day. Of course it’s been through timing belts, water pumps, hoses, brakes. I just last year replaced the entire AC system for around $400 and had it charged at a shop. About the same as a typical car payment

I owned a Canadian built 2001 Chevy Astro I bought in 2002. Owned it till 2020 and put 196, 000 miles on it. One trans rebuild, no engine problems at all. Finally it rusted away. Still miss it.

My sister has a 97 Ford F150 with just over 400k and still going strong. They don't make them like they used to.

My old 45 GMC i sold a couple years back will never die, i am working on it for the new owners, T5 trans, new wiring, the 69 Fargo power wagon i just picked up for free will never die, my 75 F350 will never die, it doesn't matter how much gas costs, keeping these old trucks on the road is money in the bank.

I like the late 80s to early 2000s GM trucks. I have owned three of them: A 1988 4x4 3/4 Ton, 1990 GMC 4x4 Stepside, and a 1999 Chevy Tahoe. All three vehicles made it between 270, 000 to 295, 000 miles with the original drivetrain. The 1988 truck had some serious rust issues though.

I bought a '96 Chevy 1500 last year for $1, 100 and I love it. It has about 200, 000 miles but the transmission was rebuilt 15, 000 miles ago. And it has a solid grill guard

Bought a 2001 Chevy S-10 Crew Cab 4X4 pickup with the 4.3 V6 used in 2010 for $5, 000. Still driving it more than 12 years later. Yes, I’ve had to do some fairly spendy repairs along with regular maintenance but it still beats the heck out of having a gigantic truck payment. And it never fails to get me through the worst snow storms that a Minnesota winter can throw our way.

I have a rust free 01 7.3 F250 4dr.
2wd . With 180k miles that I hope to see 500k. It's got a BTS trans. And a little performance work.
Gets 9-11 mpg when towing the 5th wheel and 17-19 mpg without the trailer. I had it ceramic coated. It shines like new.

‘89 F-250 with the inline 6 is literally the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Absolutely no idea how many miles, but I’ve put at least 150, 000 on it myself.
Strong, dependable and easy to work on.

$5100 for a 2000 Silverado I bought in '08 with 103k miles 5.3 V8 4x4 Z71 Extended Cab. Now has 205k ...really only needed required maintenance. Replaced a cheap ignition switch, switch for electronic side mirror adjustments, an AC condenser and now I'm having to replace the water pump soon. Don't think I've put even over $1500 in parts in it and I've had it for almost 15 yrs. That's really it. Still runs great and the paint looks great on it for being a 22 y.o. truck.

4 years ago I found my rare 5.7 V8 regular cab short bed 2007 Toyota Tundra SR5, everything works, it's totally reliable, it goes fast and stops great, and the gas mileage isn't bad. It has 304, 000 miles and I am taking it on a 4 hour round trip drive into the heart of Atlanta later today. It's a keeper.

I still have a 1993 Chevy Silverado 1500 I used for 15 years as a plow truck with a Boss 8.6 V Plow. The nice thing is you can tighten up the torsion bar and bring up the ride height. I still have it for a backup plow it took a beating and kept on ticking. Runs great but it has skin cancer.

Here's a little tip on those older Tundra's: Remove the metal safety guard from the rear differential that contains the 4WD black plastic motor box. On the very top of the plastic box, you will see a vacuum line. Inspect that line and make sure that it is STILL attached to the nipple and inspect it for rot. If the vacuum line becomes detached, and you drive through any amount of water, the water will seep into the motor box and corrode the 4WD motors. This will render your 4WD as totally worthless. You try and put it in 4WD, and all you will see is flashing Hi and Lo lights. It will never go into gear. The only fix is to buy a used differential and replace it. For some reason, Toyota put the plastic box together with self tapping Phillip's head screws! So if you live in the salt belt like I do, the screws are rotted beyond belief and you will never be able to remove them to inspect the electric motors. Another tip: Check the rear pumpkins vent valve. They love to get all rusted up and seal themselves closed. If this happens, your rear end will be unable to vent the pressure and will eventually cause the axle seals to leak. Another caveat of living in the salt belt.
