I own a 1998 GMC Sonoma. Body is rusty with 2.2 4 cylinder/automatic transmission, 280, 000 miles and still rolling on.!!!

I found out my girlfriend's brother in law got a used 2wd tacoma a while ago. It was $19, 000. Its more than 15 years old. I got my 20 year old ranger for $1, 900. I'd much rather get 10 rangers than 1 overpriced tacoma. I could even buy my truck, and 9 remanufactured engines for it for that cost.

My dad had a 1995 Ford Ranger 4 cylinder with the manual transmission. He got 315, 000 miles before the catalytic converter went out. Great truck.

I had a 1994 Ranger pickup that I bought from my neighbor when it had100, 000 miles. I sold it in 2015 when I bought his used F 150. The ranger had a 3.5 litre engine, manual trans with 4 wheel drive. In the 213, 000 I had it ( total.of 313, 000), I replaced the clutch twice ( teenage boys ), all the u-joints, a starter, alternator, mass airflow sensor, and the water pump the month before I sold it. It didn't use any oil, no rust (did have a little paint pealing), and everything else worked, AND the seats did not have any holes in them! I let it go for $1, 200 and the person I sold it to still uses it for a work truck. I can vouch for Ranger pickup trucks!

1990s Nissan Hardbodies are still on the roads by the thousands. The best truck I've ever owned. Cheap on gas, durable, dependable and you can work on them yourself and find parts galore.

You hit the nail on the head again Scotty! I bought an ‘ 05 Ranger 5 years ago in almost mint condition with the 2.3 - 4 cyl engine that looks and runs like new. I paid 4 K for it and have no regrets whatsoever! Plus it has the 7 ft. bed which is exactly perfect for me. Thanks for the good solid advice as always Scotty! 👍

I drive a 2001 Toyota Tacoma, and I change oil every 5000 miles, runs very smooth, manual transmission has done near 140000 miles and the best part is, AC still blows cold

Since this episode is about reliability it's probably good to mention that the 1st generation of the SOHC 4.0 in the ranger (1998-2001ish) was prone to timing chain issues. It was somewhat remedied after that. The pre 98 ranger 4.0 was OHV and didn't have those issues.
