You cant club all North Indians as being similar we have distinct cultures look at Ladakh, Punjab, Rajasthan these states are pretty close to each other yet are so distinct. Its like how South Indians would feel when an ignorant person just calls them "Madrasi".

I'm pretty sure if you ask the same question to a Chinese or a Korean, they'll first be like "I'm a Chinese/Korean." and not "I'm an Asian" I think nation hits the mind first if someone asks where I'm from.

Well I'm born in Kenya and I'm an Indian. We don't use the word Asian here. Neither do we refer to ourselves as just kenyans. It comes down to heritage. My heritage is Indian. So the logic will always boil down to heritage, not which citizenship you've or the continent your heritage is located. It is simply Indian.

Strange question. You call yourself French, not European. Why would you ask them if they refer to themselves according to their country or continent?

I think if you study the geologic history of the Indian subcontinent, you will find that approximately sixty million years ago, Indian subcontinent wasn't part of Asian mainland. It was an island unto itself. It was the Indian tectonic plate that started pushing against the Eurasian tectonic plate, creating the Himalayan mountains along with Nepal and Tibet. The Indian plate is still pushing against the Eurasian plate. So what does make us? The Himalayas are what sort of "joined " the Indian plate to Eurasian land mass. You decide. Indian, or Asian? I choose Indian.

This is such a weird question, like its common sense right? Asia is a continent, and India is a country.
