I've noticed a few comments suggesting that this story might be fictional, so I want to clarify a few things.
because It’s incredibly frustrating to share a true story, only to be called a liar by some. I understand that it's difficult to prove that something really happened, especially when it's a personal experience. But I want to clarify a few things:

1 The Bullying: I really was bullied by a coworker, and it was an incredibly tough time for me.
2 The Conversation: The conversation I had with my manager about “Nelson” really did happen, just as I described.

I did omit certain details to keep “Nelson” and the company anonymous, but the core of the story is true. I’ve seen comments suggesting that the story is “too perfect, ” but from my perspective, it was far from perfect. I struggled for four long months before a new manager stepped in.

This story isn’t something I shared lightly. It’s not easy to show a side of myself where I felt vulnerable and “allowed” myself to be bullied. I didn't even share this with my wife at the time (!)
If I were making up a story, I would have painted myself as the hero—standing up to the bully or defending someone else. But that’s not what happened. Even in the meeting with my manager, I made a decision that, in hindsight, wasn’t exactly heroic. I chose to save Nelson from punishment, even though a part of me felt he deserved it.

If I were going to make up a story, I would have crafted a narrative where I looked a lot better. What I shared with you was a true story—maybe 95% true, with some details left out to protect identities, but still true nonetheless.

Kindness is perceived as weakness by sociopaths and narcissists.

An office environment is just high school for adults.

Don’t get paid enough to get disrespected and it ain’t worth living for. May as well make it square. Gotta stand up for yourself no matter how ugly it gets.

I often associate adult situations like work being exactly like middle and highschool. You get isolated by adults who have their group clicks and there's bullies just like if you were in school. But its not the teasing type of bullying. Its more of an adult type of bullying. Most people never grow up and just carry that nature into their adulthood and continue to make the ones who have grown up miserable but they revert us back to our childhood trauma of being bullied.

Some of the toxic work environments I've suffered through actually screwed up my ability to apply for for jobs that are closer to my mental capacity. I drive a forklift now, and It's a job a middle school dropout could keep. I just don't want to deal with the trauma of a group think work environment. I'm an outsider, and although I'm capable of conforming well enough I just don't make the bonds that others do. I'm scholastic minded and I just don't laugh at stupid shit. I got bullied in two work places when idiots spread rumors about me being gay. As messed up as that is for a gay person, I'm not even gay. I'm just more articulate than they are, and I'm very selective about who I talk to. Both times I realized I'm an adult in my 20's, and I have zero interest in engaging in this nonsense. It also made me depressed because I'm blown away by how little these people matured. Most people I come across at these jobs actually take pride in illiteracy, and mediocre intellect. I suppose I learned from the experiences, but as a guy who has a tough time forgiving anyone it must absolutely break some people. Thanks for sharing this!

I wasn't sure if I wanted to release this video. I have been planning to tell my story for a year.
I havent really shared this story with many people. I was ashamed at the time, and felt I deserved it(!)
Thats what bullies do. We must not let it happen.

We had a manager who joined our team and immediately began to undermine our performance. He was mean, a liar and a bully. We all had enough and collectively complained. A week later, he wasn’t there anymore. The week after that, the manager who hired him left too. It was a blessing and my stress levels dropped and my health improved.

On an HR potential episode, 100% yes to that. The fact that HR works for THE COMPANY and not THE EMPLOYEE has to be made ever more clear than ever in this day and age of weekly substantial layoffs

I admire your honesty and bravery Tom. One day I would like to make a video about my own experiences. This is why many people are quitting the workplace!

Thank you for a great inner-personal presentation.
I can totally relate to this story.
This is the reason why I have been self-employed all my life. 😊

My new boss at a new job is currently bullying me. I tried to reach out with the "nice approach" as you mentioned in this video. But it does come off as you are weak and the bully interprets it as you submitting to them so they can display their dominance over you. Its very animal instinct and it proved to me that these bullies are running on their most basic reptilian brain. They have zero emotional intelligence. Still makes you miserable though and affects your overall work performance.

There’s always a way to retaliate. In other words if the obnoxious coworkers aren’t as clean as a whistle they can sometimes actually be eliminated for one reason or another. The most extreme example in my experience was the extremely rude customers of another barber I was working with. After five years of their shit I quit knowing full well that the owner would close the shop down entirely, owing to inability to find a replacement for me as the only full time barber, since the elderly guy in the other chair only wanted to work 3 days, didn’t want to revert to full time, and most definitely didn’t want to buy the shop himself since he’d never been the owner, the owner lived in Greece, and the owner’s son, a doctor thought that the shop was a pain in the ass. So within one month of my walking out of the shop it was shuttered. The beautiful thing about this was that very few of the customers got any warning and only discovered the shop was abandoned upon driving up to get a haircut. I retired at age 62 and was glad to not have to see these imbeciles any more.

Experienced a similar situation that went on for 6 years. Day in and day out.
When he announced he'd be leaving the company, I said nothing. This made him real mad and he even asked me why I hadn't 'reacted' at all to his impending departure, and I took great pleasure in knowing I didn't feed his narcissism by feigning even the slightest hint of interest or concern.

As far as I am concerned, his leaving was a blessing as it improved both my mental health and productivity.
Good riddance!

I have been bullied many times at several different Companies. The one question I have is why oh why didnt/doesn't my family ever want to work together to free ourselves from wage slavery? Will I never understand?

You handled the situation with utmost professionalism, dignity and integrity. I've lived this and it was actually somewhat traumatizing to listen to it. You figured out the underlying issue behind the competitiveness driven by corporate greed which pits people against each other rather than elevating teams. They don't care how people are treated just how they perform to some sort of metrics. So, dehumanizing and toxic. Brilliant video - thank you!

❤ I enjoyed the story and the fact that you didn't bad mouth him even though you had reason and opportunity. Great guy 👍🏾

I'm happy I'm with the right electrical contractor at the right job, with the right crew again. In construction, the right combination of factors leads to better satisfaction among skilled tradesmen.

This is happening to me as we speak. She will get in front of people and act like the bigger person, then stall reviewing my work. I decided to carbon copy my supervisor on my work so that my supervisor knows I have completed the tasks. Also, a newer mechanism is in place that protects me and prevents her stalling and games from hurting me. When that guy like the current one I have bothers you, it's really an extension of their own self-hatred. That's why most of them do it.
