that awkward moment when you know what a derivative is, but not what an intercept

-b/2a is the minimum of quadratic equation.

This is from the “calculator” section of SAT. Use Y= to graph it. Reduces chance of error.

Just take first derivative of the function and put it equal to 0, which will give the minimum value for the given function.

A fascinating part about -b/2a is that it was derived simply by using the sum of roots alpha + beta= -b/a which is the same as the part (x1+x2) in the formula used above as you are adding your roots. Then when you substitute you get -b/a all over 2 which gives u -b/a multiplied by 1/2. Then boom, u get -b/2a. Love mathematics cuz its beautiful ❤

For this specific question it's fastest to know that the vertex is halfway between the roots, because the roots are already given to you

FOIL, derive polynomial, set it to 0 and solve for x. A little tougher to do I guess but I dislike remembering rules if i can get away with it lol

To those saying you should find the critical point by taking the derivative, you are shooting yourself in the foot. Proving the differentiability of a function is tough, but knowing the roots and properties polynomial rings is near trivial.

You just need to find x coordinate of vertex, which is average of two x coordinates of x-intercept.

I’m in 8 grade and it’s so easy, i thought the SAT was this very hard advanced calcules test that only smart people took but it’s safe to say I was wrong.

Is it better to do it this way or desmos?

If it is a quadratic can’t you just take the x-value from your vertex?

the awkward moment when you solve a SAT question successfully using differentiation but then you remember SAT doesn not test on derivatives.

Does that work with the maximum point of f(x)

Why we take 10 and -13??not -10 and 13?

Everyone is saying to take the FOC. That’s exactly what he did.

just do -b/2a, so you know 13x-10x=3x so -3/2

Simple answer check answer by putting value of x

Gauravjhaisme

basically the biggest value of x will be the highest value of f(x) simple logic
