Careful, this method does work here but once the ratio becomes more complicated and includes more variables you won’t be able to use this quick cheat. Better to use the full method:
ratio l/w = 35/10
Width is increased by 7 units, so
(l + a)/(w + b) = (35 + a)/(10 + 7)
= (35 + a)/17
Then (35 + a)/17 = 35/10
So (35 + a) = 17 x 35/10 = 59.5
a = 59.5 - 35 = + 24.5 units.

On this one you don't even need to solve it. A 7 unit change doesn't sound right and you know it won't decrease, so yiu just pick what's left over(b).
