"The quest for a healthy snack has taken many people down a long, arduous, and often disappointing road." Truer words were never spoken, my brother.

Does anyone remember the "low fat" craze in the 1990s? EVERYTHING seemed to be low- or no-fat, including baked goods like muffins which had the texture of a rubber ball. To try to make these foods more palatable, they added a lot more salt and sugar. People also ate larger portions to gain satiety. So everyone ended up MUCH fatter than before.

I’m always surprised when I hear that a lot of people just don’t read nutrition labels. As a Type 1 diabetic, I HAVE to read every single label. When you do that, you’ll be amazed at what food manufacturers consider to be a serving.. most of the time, it’s a complete joke! You’ll also be amazed by what they’re allowed to put in our food!
Excellent video Simon and team!! I’d love a video on the FDA and the clear conflict of interest that happens there. Maybe also include the difference between the FDA and the equivalent for the EU?

We had a drive thru customer ask us where the sodium content information was on our menu board. After being told they could find that information on the internet, we were told our sign was "illegal, " and they drove off.
I understand their concerns, but if sodium content is important to you, maybe avoid fast food restaurants?

In defense of milk vs soda. Milk might have more calories but it has a lot of vitamins and minerals. Soda has nothing. I’ve learned when judging if something is healthy or not you don’t just look at calories but calorie value. Sugar is empty calories. If something has extra nutrition the few extra calories might be worth it.

I love eating can after can of campbells condensed chicken noodle soup straight from the can, no heat, no added water, but no one should take healthy eating decisions from me.

You can't just look at one thing to decide what's healthier. Juice might have more sugar then soda but it also has other things like vitamins and folic acid which you don't get out of soda.

I had two sinus lift surgeries, a procees that took about a year. For that year I couldn't chew, so I practically lived on soup. I thought I'd lose weight. I gained weight.

It’s a bit complicated.

Basically food has no moral value, only nutritional values!

Fruit juice is very sugary, however it’s also a source of vitamins, minerals and a tasty treat. The same is true for tomato soups, of course they have added salt, sugars etc but they also have a lot of vitamins, minerals and trace elements.

Air popped popcorn is actually great for a lower calorie diet. Especially if you only sprinkle a bit of salt on it, or some kind of sweetener.

However, calories as a way to measure “health” of the food is inaccurate. It only gives a small part of the story. And not everyone is going to be trying to lose weight. Sure it’s a common enough thing, but some people are trying to maintain weight or gain weight.

Should probably point out that this video is geared towards the US audience. What the US puts in food (especially sugar and sodium) is significantly more than in other countries. Then there are all the ingredients that are banned pretty much everywhere else....

Well there's a big difference between drinking coke and milk. You get nothing but sugar from coke while you get many many other benefits from milk. Healthy doesn't mean less calories

Fun fact: The higher sugar or any of their derivatives are listed on the label, the more sugar the item contains.

I get Waitrose Merlot grape juice! Ooh get me!!🤣🤣 it’s nice though and I don’t care about the sugar or the fact the security guard follows me around the store constantly every time I go in!😊

That's why I often get a big bag of No Man's Land Beef Jerky. I avoid Jack Link's now.

Jerky is high in protein but also high in sodium. Same with Vietnamese Pho. I love that soup.

Well, after all that I am feeling better about my McDonalds lunch! At least I wasn't eating all that other stuff, just the stuff that the video selections were being compared with!

Yeah, if you're specifically wanching the word 'sugar' and nothing else not only are you missing the other things that might be worth it but you're ignoring the sugar adjacent things that your body basically just treats like sugar. You can't be like "Oh I always buy the sugar free stuff. And I drink alcohol every day." and expect that to help with your sugar levels. Also, some of the sugar free stuff overcompensate with other things like extra salt and fat.

Well, we don't have to worry about the calories in Bud Light anymore.
