BTW, HUGE warning. In video he says it'll save the password for encryption in keychain so don't worry about it. I spent 12 hours spenting up a windows VM, i didn't write down the random password it did cause it said it'd save it in a keychain. The very next day I boot it up and it ASKED for that password, it was NOT saved in keychain and 12 hours just gone. Write password down or don't random it is my advice to you.

Honestly, the performance of Windows 11 on ARM via Parallels and VMWare fusion just makes me more excited about the new Snapdragon based laptops being announced soon.

Windows on ARM's compatibility layer has gotten so damn good. I remember when you couldn't run *anything* on it, even on Apple's hardware, because the translation layer was too slow or just didn't work.

FYI: If something x86 doesn't run, try this:
Right click on the executable (.exe)
Properties -> Compatibility -> Change emulation settings
Change "Default" to "Strict execution" or "Very strict execution".
I don't do gaming, but I had to switch to "Strict execution" to get some video editing software to work.
I hope Broadcom doesn't start charging for home use of Fusion an Player. VMware is now owned by Broadcom.
Thanks for the video! I just updated to 13.5.1.

For those who have the error "time out EFI Network", just click on the VR when you reboot it and spam spacebar to lanch windows before the error appears.

Wanted to play Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen before Dragon's Dogma 2 release on my Mac mini M2 Pro base (10 core CPU, 16 core GPU, 16 GB RAM) and tried Crossover first but was unhappy with the performance (lots of micro-stutters, some glitches and a non-consistent FPS). Tested using D3DMetal and DXVK and different in-game settings. Now with Fusion, I'm getting a mostly locked 60 fps, settings in high and running at 1440p. Set the VM to 8 cores and 8 GB RAM and the game runs smoothly, mostly locked to 60 fps. There are a few micro stutters when first loading a scene, but is otherwise a better experience for this game - I'm intrigued if others are getting a similar experience

4:37 It’s still good to write it down and keep it for the time of running the virtual machine again. Sometimes VMware likes to ask for this password in order to open the virtual machine for the second time and not saving it in keychain despite the option to do so toggled on.

Thanks for this. I use Crossover to launch steam and game on my Macbook Pro but installed VMware Fusion with Windows 11 so that i can update the firmware on the Dualsense (I don't have a PS5 yet).

How different in performance is it to parallels? Would love to see a direct comparison.

Need to update. VMWare Fusion has gone through major corporate shakeup. I gave up on a free installation.

Any idea how the performance of this free VMware Fusion 13.5.1 player compares with Parallels, please? I would love a benchmark or two.

I bought the 15 inch MacBook Air a week ago and one of the first things I did was download this. Very easy to set up and it’s free

Hopefully, we can install Windows arm natively on arm Macs one day

@andrew tasi, can you do an update video for VMware Fusion as it now asks you to register with Broadcom Customer Support. Once you've registered it seems you have to search through the KB to find out how to install VMware Fusion. Which a really frustrating experience and I'm still trying to work it out.
Can you do a video on this, please?

If you set it up for Work or School you can skip the whole Microsoft Account shenaningans. Just do Work or School > Sign In Options > Domain Joined Instead and that's it. You will be prompted to create a local account.

Its good to see VMware is *finally* getting it together. Took them 2 years to have the MS check, but better late than never. They claimed the hold up was due to VMware licensing with Microsoft. but i reckon the better explanation is they were busy with Linux support first as well. Vmware as a company is quite small which surprised me, knowing they also do ESXi. That's the kind of businessss you'd actually "want" more employees, not less.

It doesn't make sense Parallels got this within (1) year 2020 of M1 release and working 100% perfectly, while Vmware even today is still lacking shared folder support.. Its got 3D acceleration, but that's about it for this update... Not much to be happy about as the main issue is still missing.

@Andrew you might be interested to know that you can point your VNWare Steam set up storage to the same location as your CrossOver 24 installation storage and the games can be accessed without reinstalling.
