I have been using parallels for doing windows programming since 2012 and I love it. I can do all of my Xcode stuff on the Mac and all my windows stuff as well. As a consultant having all my platforms on one machine is a great cost savings.

It’s a yearly subscription. I tired the one time purchase option before, but every time Mac OS updates, I have to purchase an upgrade for it to work well. I finally bought a Synology NAS and running virtual machine and windows on it.

I was pretty impressed at being able to install the x64 Windows on my Mac M1. I ran full developer workloads and almost everything worked flawlessly, I was even able to run SSMS which used to be impossible on M1 until now. Can highly recommend this. Almost every x64 program ran natively first time.

I was changing my brand new Mac book air to a brand new laptop pc. I really need windows on it, and this arm version have a lot on bugs. And also the price for pd is insane. That’s such a shame apple cannot come up with some fix like it was before. Boot-camp was working properly when I was having an older Mac with intel.

Parallels is a very costly option. Apple should resurrect bootcamp

In theory this is a good idea and worked quite well prior to Apple changing to ARM. So many programs don’t work because they still need to be supported by the Windows 11 ARM edition. 😢

I didn't know they had started to limit the standalone edition! That sucks! I have 17 and then 18 on both my M1 Macbooks. It is much more straight forward than VMware to get running on M1 but I am not paying to upgrade each year and seems even less reason to from now on as I hate subscription models.

Thank you very much man. Perfect video. Everything was max clear

😂the pricing of PD is so ridiculous ! the concept of running Windows within MacOs is already a gimmick, paying that amount of money for this is beyond my understanding

Hi Jeff, I'm returning to use MacOS after many many years and bought a Macbook Air M1, but I still need to run a few Windows programs. It would be of great value if you make a video about VMWare Fusion 13 on a M1 or M2 mac.

thanks for this great Video!!! Actually I use Parallels for over 1 1/2 year now with my M1 without any problem! Works perfect!!! One question though. If I would upgrade my Mac and buy an M2 Mac would the Parallels transferred over automatically or do I need to install it again?

I hope they find a way to install windows natively on the m1 and m2 so in the future if and when apple doesnt support the old devices it would still be of good use, more so those machines arent cheap at all.

Good review. I have my doubts about battery life with Parallels installed. Years ago I used it on a 15" MacBook Pro with i9 and with the virtual machine the battery lasted no more than 3 hours while with macOS it was up to 9 hours!
Now I have a MacBook Pro 14" M2 Max with 64Gb RAM and 2Tb SSD I would like to try it but I don't want to create problems with macOS. Can you give me an estimate of battery life with continuous use of Parallels compared to using MacOS alone? I would test Parallels 19. Thanks

I’m not sure but I think the standard version of Parallels is a one time purchase. The pro version is $120 a year

Great video - although I'm not sure it's worth paying the parallel's desktop subscription just to play rocket league!! Crossover would probably be a better alternative. Good to see you back Jeff!

Hey thanks for the info. I’m considering running a hybrid setup like this. Just curious, I was told that if we run Microsoft apps like Excel and Word on a mac that we lose out on some functions such as pivot charts and formulas etc.

If I run parallels 18 with windows 11 on a Mac m1 or m2 will I get the full functionality of the Microsoft apps or is it the same issue?

I appreciate a response if you can. Thanks!

I like some of the transitions, but sometimes they're a bit too much and are seemingly random. Since we use these persistent elements that transition across pages to indicate some kind of relationship between the previous and the next states, some of your transitions confuse me because I can't immediately see what the relationship is.

For example 2:23 of the selectable tiles (which weren't selected) transition into being two switches... does that mean anything? are they related in some way? I see this as random and a bad use of the design language. However, at 1:14 I like the transition from switches to the ticks on a paper, that makes sense to me. Epic presentation tho

Thanks going through all of these steps. FWIW, I play rocket league on PS5, so that isn't playable to me (lol). But still cool that you can run it!
