What’s the difference between the Segundo Volante and Advanced Playermaker?

Specifically, I’m trying to get the best out of Archie Gray at Leeds. The game has him down as a deep lying playmaker but I’d like him to get forward as well. I think he can dictate tempo but also affect the final third. What’s the best role for him? And why that role? I really struggle on FM with picking roles. There’s so many that just seem to do the exact same thing. How do I know which to choose?!
