New study procedure for Type 2 diabetes

Doctors in New Orleans are testing a procedure they call “surgery for diabetes.”

It's something they believed until recently, was unheard of.

Now local people with diabetes will have the chance to be among the first in the U.S. to join the clinical trial.

Thirty years ago, gastric bypass surgery was popular for weight loss. The stomach was made smaller, then connected to a lower part of the small intestines. So food would no longer go through the duodenum. That's the first foot of the small intestines. Then something unexpected emerged.

"I had gallstones in 2016 with severe attacks, and I refused to undergo the operation because I didn't see myself losing an organ. So, I began praying every midnight for like two years. Then, one night, I had a severe gallstone attack. Prior to that, I had experienced multiple gallstone attacks, and they usually just gave me morphine. However, on this occasion, after the last gallstone attack, I requested an MRI scan, and I was told that the stone had moved to my common bile duct. To me, it felt like my prayers were answered; to the doctor, they said it was dangerous.

Anyways, I was told I might require an endoscopic procedure. Within seven minutes, the stone was removed, and I haven't suffered from gallstone issues ever since. However, right after the procedure, which took approximately seven minutes, I began to crave sugar intensely, and I didn't know why. Somehow, I started eating jelly babies, ice cream, things I would not normally eat. In 2022, I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and I was crushed. The reason I am writing this is that I heard the word "duodenum, " which is closer to the pancreas. Now, I am not sure if there is a correlation between the endoscopic procedure, which went through the duodenum to reach the common bile duct to take the stone out, and it may have affected my pancreas at the time."
