I swear skincare products ruined my skin.. when I used to just leave my skin alone it was so much more clear and now I have all this acne and hyperpigmentation from using too many products😓 I should have listened to my Mom when she would tell me to just leave my skin alone!

Buying too many skincare products ages you faster... When you read your bank statement 🤯🤪

I worked for many years with poorest women in a third world country - women who worked in mines, in clothing factories, with crazy heat, and in far more pollution than the average American. Not all of them were dark skinned either, but almost all of them went through life with NO fancy skincare products, not even sunscreen, and definitely no fancy cleansers or moisturisers, esp coconut oil in the hair, and a simple sandalwood or generic soap and water. My recollection was that their skin was STUNNING...irrespective of age. Our obsession with skincare as a hobby and our insane preoccupation with anti-ageing is definitely a #firstworldproblem... thanks Dr Dray for touching upon this! ❤

I've only been using a face wash, moisturizer, and spf. I use Differin 3 times a week as well. My wallet is happier and my skin doesn't look any worse giving up toners and serums.

As someone who has worked over 15 years in the beauty and skin health industry. I have had the opportunity to test and use many wonderful skincare products and treatments through the years. At least once a week in my evening routine I take a break from the retinol, azelaic acid, niacinamide etc. and just gently wash my face and apply a moisturizer( sometimes less is more)I appreciate this video and all your insight Dr Dray.

P.S. I hate to admit that I'm such an impulse buyer when it comes to skin care products. Thank you for your minimal ization of products video! This is going to save me bunches.

There’s just something about a multi-step routine that’s very calming to me to start and end my day. I don’t know that each product is as beneficial as marketing would have me think, and I’m sure I’d be fine without some steps. But hopefully if I’m looking at it more as self care habit than actually beneficial dermatologically (and it isn’t irritating my skin) it might still get Dray’s blessing

So glad I found Dr Dray. Since my family is from a small village in Mexico. Skincare isn’t really a thing till I earning some money to spend. The main thing my mom would tell me was to wash my face and moisturize. Now with Dr Dray I’ve added a sunscreen for everyday and I’m still getting surprised looks when I tell people my age 😁

I'm so glad you created this outstanding channel & using this platform to educate the masses. I too suffer from eczema flareups & have benefited greatly from your skin care knowledge & passed what I've learned from you to others in need. Also, love the nail polish & earrngs on you.

Being OCD, if I do not have a routine I perform in the morning (that marks the start of my day) and at night (that marks the end of my day), transitioning into different phases of the day has proven to be quite difficult for me psychologically. This includes a skin care routine.

I won't ditch my skincare but I'm being a minimalist and not buying junk I don't need

I’ve noticed over the years the more products I used the worse my skin was, some things dried out my skin. When I was younger I used a lot of Clinique products, one product in particular, their Seven Day Scrub I believe permanently damaged the skin around my nose, it’s always red. I started watching you when my daughter made the decision to go on isotretinoin and I actually learned so much for myself as well as for my daughter. Right now I’m using Cerave cleanser, I switch between the cream and SA (Ponds to take off make up if I wear it) EucerinQ10, Cerave sunscreen and my skin is so much softer and clear. I’ve also incorporated differin three times per week and Cerave night moisturizer. No more harsh toners and scrubs. Thanks Dr Dray, all because of you. Well wishes for your mom.

Ever since I follow your suggestion by eliminating non-essential products, my skin and my wallet have been the happiest. Happy Thursday everyone!

Had a derm recommend stopping all products even sunscreen for a few weeks due to horrible eczema. Everything burned so I couldn't use products. I used a wide hat for sunscreen and protective clothing. Did it work? Yes, reduced sensitivity and I slowly reincorporated just hydrating face wash, moisturizer without preservatives (i.e. La Roche Toleraine Ultra my new HG) and CeraVe baby mineral SPF 45. I haven't had a huge flareup since. Also noticed the natural oils in my skin came back which felt so good. Hardest part was no sunscreen. I feel naked without it!

I unintentionally went on a skin care fast for over a year. It was due to crippling depression and I had a horrible flare up of eczema in January. By May, I had discovered your channel for some insight on what to do. I knew I needed the basics but I wanted to learn more about what to do with the eczema. I started with 5 products; oil cleanser, gentle cleansing lotion, a hydrating serum, a thick moisturizer, and of course sunscreen. After a couple of months with that my skin transformed into something I haven’t seen since I was a teen. I had great skin as a teenager and looking back it’s because I consistently kept up with cleansing and using an spf moisturizer. I’ve since incorporated tretinoin cream for the past couple months and my skin has never looked better. Needless to say, I’ll never go on skincare fast ever again 😅

Also, I don’t think I’ll be adding anything to it either. My routine is working great for me right now so why would I? Lol

About a year ago I was using multiple unnecessary products. My skin as well as my wallet weren’t happy with that. I used to think it was essential to have a toner, essence, serum in your routine but that wasn’t it. I cut it down to using a moisturizing sunscreen in the morning and for nighttime I use a cleanser, moisturizer and my curology formula. Doing this has really helped my skin. It has saved me a lot of time and money. Thank you Dr. Dray💛

Living with hormonal acne since my hysterectomy has added a whole new dimension to my skincare. I was the cleanse moisturize and sunscreen girl. Now I have tretinoin, spironolactone, Finacea azelaic acid, Q10 and resveratrol, salicylic and benzoyl peroxide washes, bi-weekly lactic acid and weekly salicylic masks. I am pretty consistent but it does take longer to get out of the house/get into bed:(

As someone who is disabled, and physically really struggles to do skincare, skincare fasting and minimalism is a regular occurrence. I also feel like people struggling with their mental health can relate to this too. Sometimes the skincare community feels a little over the top and suffocating and you need to take a little break🤍
