This is my number one channel to discover new tyre brands I've never ever heard of before 😊.

It will live longer than you if properly maintained.😂 They are nearly impossible to kill. MX-5’s are the best bang-for-your-buck on the planet. If you’ve driven/owned one, you know.

I checked the MOT a few weeks ago when I spotted it in the background on another video. It's been flagging rust for the last 5 years including the front chassis rails. It's not what you can see on one of these, it's what you can't.

Thirty-five quid loss, but another good little car saved, and another happy driver buzzing around enjoying affordable motoring. Matt, you'll get your reward in heaven, but may you have to wait many years to see it. Merry Christmas.

Would recommend anyone thinking of buying one to speak to your local owners club. They are everywhere and there will be plenty of knowledgeable owners to get advice from (and a few bores!). As well as the easily visible rust areas, these mk2s can rust on the front chassis rails, which will be expensive to fix. I’ve had a mk1, which I actually made a profit on, 2 mk2s and a mk3. Never known anyone who had a problem with engine or gearbox, rust is the only thing that will kill them. Not a super fast car, but great fun to drive. Owners clubs have regular meet ups and club drive outs as well as some motorsports, if that’s your thing.

To everyone who comments with things like “he’s paid too much” or “what’s the point of little too no profit “ don’t forget Matt is most likely buying these for YouTube content (and there will be associated revenue from that plus sponsor spots an company merch) and IMHO probably wouldn’t touch these with a barge pole if it wasn’t for YouTube.

That said I enjoy the aforementioned content and wish Matt best of luck with it.

Likely most Mk I and II's have been wrecked, rusted out or ended up as racing cars. This is still one of the best small sports cars ever made, with stone cold reliability, good handling, fun to drive. I would love to drive one of these on a curvy A, B or no-classification road in the country. So you lost some money on the deal, but it made for a good video and kept on the road for a few more years.

Had loads of mx5's over the years, and a great car to drive! But rust and worn roofs are a problem!

for £1600 you bought a rusty dog, the one I offered you in PX had half the mileage of this rough example, was a higher spec and came with a matching hard top and the soft top was perfect and all the rust had been done, and you didn't even want it, oh and it had 4 matching tyres, that thing is only worth £500 at best .

Matt, respect for keeping another modern classic on the road. I've personally owned 3 MX5'S all 1.6 manuals too. My last MX5 funnily enough was exactly the same as your in the video, 1.6 Mk2.5 in silver and mine also was a 2003, mine was 87k and immaculate underneath, i regret selling that last year for £1900... Admittedly the 110bhp is slow but they are a proper drivers car. My first car was an MX5 and they'll always be special to me. Theirs just something about them... The sheer cheapness, and extreme reliability of these makes them a joy to own. Great content Matt as per ❤

The profit is in what we’re watching now👍

All four arches are rotting out along with the drivers rear quarter. That’s what you can see on the video, I dread to think about what you can’t.

Perfect. Second hand roof catch off the bay, also jdm rims, induction kit, sports exhaust, lower it, drift gear knob. Drive it like you stole it and have very low cost fun.

I loved my Mk2 back in the day... owned it for 6 weeks, went pretty much everywhere sideways, sold it when I was sure I could hear a diff whine (import model so had the LSD). Great little cars

Great little cars. My wife had a black one and we loved it. We used to bomb down to the Dordogne in it. Roof down. Never ever let us down. Replaced it with a mk 3 which had nowhere near the same character.

Why would anyone drive an mx5 with four different tyres. They are completely missing the point of why and how an mx5 drives on winding country roads... john

Hats off to you, sir. You just can't resist doing the right thing even if it hurts your pocket. You are in danger of giving second-hand car dealers a good name!

I have almost the same, NB 2.5 Sport with LSD and 6 speed etc! I have welded the car extensively, replacement inner panels, external, front chassis rails new wings, lots of floor welding, just check it out as these rust really badly!
