The Mazda 2 is a proper underrated car. I called it the, “Ford Fiesta from Japan”. Great to drive, economical, and very light. Mazda decided to save weight making this car so it weight under 1 ton. And it is very reliable. Why would you have a fiesta or a Corsa when you can have this. I think it is the badge and the lack of popularity

The one car that never let me down and every mechanic complimented it after an MOT or service. If I wasn’t having a quarter life crisis I’d have one again

The year was 2011, my family and I rented this little Mazda2, we were driving through the Mediterranean and Balkan mountains all five of us (I was squished in the middle seat) and it pulled us pretty well at 33mpg. This 1.3L beast is very reliable. I truly believe that these are more practical and eco friendly than any of those giant battery electric leases. Great video mate!

I am a viewer from Greece. Your videos, especially those with affordable cars are very good and helpful, as those are the kind of cars we can affort to buy for every day use. You will find it funny but a mazda 3 like this would easily sell for 4000-5000€ in Greece ( and not in a very mint condition...) . Again, good job ! I enjoy your videos!

14:19 made me think the car was on air ride for a second 😂. The Mazda 2 and 3 are underrated cars I think. And the MPS especially is quite a dark horse as a hot hatch

I had the 1.5 Sport petrol version of this car. 2008 model. In 5 and a half years and 60, 000 miles, the only things that failed were a boot switch and a shock absorber. 48mpg all day long (55 on a motorway). Also, being super light weight, it was very easy on tyres and brakes.

It was an incredible piece of engineering!

I must say your video presentation is very educational. Anybody considering buying a used car should most definitely watch your videos. Simple to understand and you tell it like it is in the real world. Thank you.

I like this generation of Mazda 2. It’s not too overdesigned like the new ones. It’s a humble little car. And I love humble little cars

I suggest you check the intermediate steering shaft u-joint inside the cabin - they tend to make this clunking noise and a simple re-greasing would solve the problem. I own one of these and had exactly the same issue. It is a common issue on Mazdas in general and a very cheap fix. These cars are super reliable and durable. A bit of tlc would bring this car back to it`s former glory. Great video!

I've owned a 2009 Mazda 2 for the past 5 years and its been fantastic. It's really the perfect first car. The only thing that needed doing other than regular maintenance was changing the knock sensor (for some reason they all go bad at about 170, 000km) and a couple of new suspension bushings. It's been a joy to rev out the little 1.5 engine. I've no plans to get rid of it anytime soon, it's simply been too good to me and my bank account.

Great video again Matt! I especially enjoy the concluding "1 week later" part of the car's journey with you, that gives the outcome.... Good or bad, rather than leaving the viewer hanging as to what happened.
And fantastic up to date information on pricing etc... Not like watching reruns of homes under the hammer prices as of 2008.🤣👏

I bought an 11 plate 1.6d, in a nicer spec than this. Over the last 7k miles in 3 months, it's been very good to me! Never left me stranded, and happily averages around 50mpg with a heavy right foot. Spacious and very fun to drive for being a more basic car. We have two in the family now including mine and both have been very good cars. Quite pleased with my little 2.

The green moss is the extended colour coding option😂 to be fair, I’ve had two and the chassis is brilliant. Travelling all over Germany it was surprisingly capable. The trim is a bit fisher price but the big problem for all Mazda is (potentially) the rust.

I currently drive the newer generation of the Mazda2. It's a wonderful car, it just looks so good on that Mazda red, is good on the inside and it drives absolutely wonderfully for a reasonably cheap compact economy car with only 90 horsepower. It also gets incredible fuel economy. Yes, it does have it's compromises, but I absolutely love the thing in case you didn't notice. Really liked watching this video!

My Mazda 2 is now 11 years old. I have driven it from California north to south. It has been and still is a very reliable car even though I bought it used from a car rental dealership. Aside from usual oil changes, the only time I have to do a major maintenance on it is to replace its original battery years ago. I refuse to sell or trade this car even though family is growing and this model was already phased out some time ago in the US.

I have one in the US. The steering clunking is lack of grease inside. The dealer pulled mine apart and shot grease in and it calmed it down. Great car. I had mine new off the lot for almost 9 years now.

Just revisited this having helped my younger son buy one as his first car. He was keen on a Mini, but I didn’t fancy stumping up for a new timing chain! Picked up a locally-owned, one owner from new 2010 TS2 with 77k and a folder full of history for just £2k. Hopefully it’ll serve him well. And it’s a petrol 😁

My wife's mondeo 2.0L diesel does twice the mpg of my V70 petrol so I think diesels do have their place especially with the cost living crisis we are in.

I've had a few mx5s in the past and currently run a 30 year old Eunos Roadster for summer and a 3rd gen Mazda3 skyactiv petrol. I wasn't surprised by this 2 as anything by Mazda is pretty much bulletproof provided you avoid the rotary's and the skyactiv diesels. As always rust is the biggest killer. I had a look at a couple for my daughter, they are quite good fun to drive and a bit left field amongst a sea of Corsas and Fiestas.
