Why Apple Is Switching To ARM

Apple recently announced that they’d be transitioning their entire line of Mac computers away from the Intel processors that currently power every Mac, to Apple’s own custom ARM chipset. This was a decision that many people expected to happen, but not everyone knows why Apple’s doing it. And that’s exactly what I’m going to explain.

Intel must be in a panic mode right now because even Apple is ditching them.

Why shrink the battery? Keep it the same level and let the users have much more usage time.

But what with the existing apps for MacOS?? Will they have to be rewritten for the new chipset, as it's ARM, and not Intel x86 architecture? Will it be complicated for the developers? Is it any danger for Apple? iOS apps are generally not as functional and useful as the pro, full, desktop versions for a Macbook or iMac... And many pro apps even don't exist for iOS... Like fully functional Adobe Premiere, After Effects or music DAWs like Ableton, Cubase or FL Studio. Or Blender, MS Office???? etc. etc.... It could be a potential disaster for Apple and I'm not sure why you didn't even mention that :)

One inaccuracy in this video. Apple couldn't have licensed Windows when they first made the Mac, and before that the Lisa, because Windows didn't exist. Windows came after the Macintosh OS which both came after what Xerox had developed.

The fact that we can run iOS apps on the macs is already game changer. ESPECIALLY in the Long run when all the code is in sync

Great video, Greg. The TSMC 12-core 5nm processors would definitely be a plus point. The big question is how well the first- and third-party macOS software will run on the new hardware architecture since software compatibility has been a pain point for Windows laptops running on ARM.

Maybe they’ll keep the same battery size and alongside with the crazy optimization, the battery life will be enormous. And still they could shrink the whole body since there woulfn’t be any need for such big fans

"Even release a computer with no fans"

The future is now.

It might be because of Apple not wanting to pay Intel for their chip and to avoid Hackintosh
