Apple's new Mac plan is bold and could lead to some real excitement. However, there may be a few bumps in the road.

I'd prefer something thicker with a huge amount of compute power that has great thermals. A lot of Pro users would like this. Good thermals and no throttling is worth more than "thin".

To be clear, Steve Jobs wasn’t perfect and yes, he made decisions later reversed. However, he made the “stylus” comment when launching an iPhone, that statement holds true today. iPads and macs are a different ballgame.

6:30 anytime someone uses the "Steve Jobs said about stylus" line, then you know they are just stretching or even making things up. because that line is almost always taken out of context or misquoted.

I so appreciate how you properly say “Apple Silicon” instead of ARM. Too few journalists get this right.

I never felt the need to use a touch screen laptop but what do I know ? I’m the same guy that couldn’t imagine a use case for the Apple Watch, now I can’t live without it

See my laptop has a touchscreen and there a definitely times where it’s more convenient to use the touch rather than the mouse, but it’s not entire sessions of just touch, it’s simple quick taps that I use and the mouse as well.

As someone deep in the Apple ecosystem, I HATE the idea of a touchscreen mac. I don't feel like I would ever need to use my finger for navigating on my MacBook. That is why the iPad Pro is the future of computing. The whole point of the touchscreen is so you can naturally use it while holding it without a keyboard. That is the beauty of the Magic Keyboard since you can fully remove it, and there are no bit and bobs for connection, no Bluetooth. You don't have to think about it, just magnetised on an off. It's such a seamless experience. You don't get that with a mac. No one needs that feature and I believe Apple when they say they won't be doing it.

I'm switching to Apple. It takes a lot of balls and resources to venture into semiconductor/processor design.

hey apple, what he meant to suggest is to go with the default that sets mouse as primary interface touch secondary but not neglected

Most people think Apple is doing this for their benefit. One thing for sure you will eventually be forced to upgrade your laptop because Apple will only support ARM processors. I think that is the plan. It will also kill the refurbish market to resell your laptop. Apple was already caught updating Iphone OS to slow down older iphones to pressure you into purchasing the latest model. Technology is far too good nowadays. You really don't need to upgrade every one or two years maybe three or four.

4:51: That's not true. When Apple went to intel Macs, the time spent between the last PowerPC Mac and the first release of MacOS X 10.6 Snow Leopard wich don't support PowerPC at all were 3 and half years instead of 7 like today. So, be aware, Apple don't disclose the real amount of time they will support old hardware, and if it's true the Apple Silicon is so fast, Apps will drop Intel code sooner than later.

I think it would be nice to see some MacBooks Pros where thinness isn’t as much of a priority, but make it a bit thicker and fill up that space with battery and fans/heat pipes, so the power can be turned up on their new chips. I’ve noticed with the many laptops I’ve had, that sturdiness and rounded edges, make a big difference in portability.

Edit. And I really hope they’re not touchscreen, at least not the Pros. I guess due to my workflow(coding on the move), accidental touches happen way more than I ever actually used the touchscreens.

Apple wont bring touch screen to their macs for the same reason they don’t allow multitasking on their iPhones, because they want you to buy an iPad.

Couple of concerns/questions with Apple Silicon CPUs for Macs: 1) Apple may stop providing upgrades for Intel based Macs; 2) the user may not be able to install other OS's such as Linux or Windows.

The spacing should automatically change if they plan on making touchscreen capable Macs and it should change very quickly so that the user won't have to change it every time and take time to do so. Making it so seamless that you don't even notice it is the most Apple way to do it.

I don’t understand the obsession with touch screen on a laptop. I have a touch screen and I NEVER use it. Only these reviewers think so.

Can we use architecture software such as autocad, lumion etc. in the new silicon apple?

What Steve Jobs said about Stylus was and is true. We still don't want to use a pen on our iPhones, but for iPad, yes. Also, I don't like a touch screen mac. Because it will not be a mac anymore, but an iPad! If you want a touch screen mac, buy an iPad! Steve Jobs was right in this respect. How many of you own a touch screen laptop and use it all the time for everything? Our hands do not work on a vertical monitor as they do on a horizontal surface. Apple made the iPad exactly for this reason and it is quite powerful to cover the majority of our needs. I think there are more important changes required to be done by Apple, Like changing the aweful low quality camera of the entire mac production line, after ten years. Or solving the heating issue, hopefully by the new CPU.
