Thinking Differently About Shame with Dr. Curt Thompson

Shame is, without a doubt, one of the most difficult, devastating, negatively impactful, and yet human experiences. We all have felt and will feel shame in our lives – it’s a part of the human story going all the way back to Adam and Eve – and perhaps some of you are in an incredibly difficult spiral of shame right now. But what does shame tell us? We can’t deny the reality of shame, so what does it tell us about who we are, how we think and relate and process, and most importantly about who God is.

In this episode host Jason Wieland is joined by Dr. Curt Thompson, author of many books including The Soul of Shame and host of the Being Known podcast. In this conversation, Jason and Curt talk about what shame really is, the difference between guilt and shame, the isolating and distancing effects of shame, the hope of grace, living in humility, the beauty of the Gospel as response to shame, and much more.

I woke ups something a long time ago, when I was very young, still a child. I didnt want to feel shame for anything. So I've never done anything I should be ashamed of. It really works.

We don't feel shame unless we feel guilty of our behavior, or feel fear related beliefs. I grew up Catholic, & was programmed by this system to feel so many guilt-based Beliefs. "God is LOVE" - John 4:16. I stopped following others... & Accept "The Kingdom of God is Within YOU" - Jesus - Luke 17:21. And I have a personal relshp with God within me, & stopped following others telling me how to be, do, & have. ❤ 🙏 ❤

Sorry I just pass by and see this title about shame and I looked at the duration of this Shame topic is about 1 hour. So I decide to put some quick comment here so I can move forward to enjoy being my true self of whatever I have Shame or no Shame, doesn’t matter much to me now as I am busy to share my positive and happy vibe to myself and other. I am human, you are human, and I may have some feeling called shame sometimes, but I just take my “shame” as the experience of the feeling rather deep dive in there. As there are more interesting feelings waiting for me to enjoy like happiness, love..
So bye

Guilt says "I did wrong/evil and shame says "I am wrong/evil/bad".

Couple of years ago, I was doing a parasite cleanse with a group of women. Our mentor told us if you have a shame in your life, you will be not successful in this cleanse. When you ashamed of your life and yourself you cannot to do anything. But is it one of the tool that parents and society use to keep our children in this condition of unworthiness?

Did the author begin with "I don't deserve my life ..."?? If that doesn't ring shame, I don't know what does.

Holy moly, too many words!.. The whole hour of it! I do not want to "shame" anyone for that, but - come on!!! Isn't easy just to say, that shame is always the result of the JUDGEMENT?! Judgement is always the result of the perception, and the perception is always "in the eyes of the beholder". The beholder is an individual with it's unique perception, based on their beliefs, opinions, etc... With 8+billion of people we would have as many different views on the subject.
