To be honest tho, Ulfric really is a good choice as high king, even tho it's not for certain that he actually gets this title. He has experienced alot and learned how to rule. Elisif merely is a throne warmer and everyone knows that.

I really don't get people judging Windhelm and Solitude based on appearance.

A lot of Simperials say that Ulfric is bad at governing his hold because apparently it's "run down" has murderers and doesn't care about it or the segregation

But those are literally easy to deal with compared to the fact that:
A: Elisif can't run a hold without someone hand-holding her. Hell, she can't even make one good decision.
B: There's a cabal of undead creatures BELOW THE CITY trying to revive a dead Queen
C: There's a FREAKING DAEDRIC LORD chilling with a deranged lunatic in the Blue Palace

But since Solitude looks nice it means that the Jarl's doing a good job.👍🏻 Hurray

I think canonically the Dragonborn aligns with Balgruuf and so ultimately doesn’t support Ulfric
The whole negotiation table would not have been made to be such a big deal if you were supposed to join any side

First playthrough I was always under the assumption the Empire was out of line, and Ulfric does a really good job at lying and manipulating to make seem that way. But once you look closer you see that Ulfric is really the one out of line, either out sheer ignorance or deliberate malevolence.

I've been playing Skyrim for 10 years and I must say that it's really hard for me to play for Stormcloaks. It just doesn't feel right to me...
