Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless. Like water my friend. Best lesson by Bruce lee and fits perfectly Master Gu Taoism philosophy. Thank you for posting this enriching video.

Happiness is a choice and so is remaining calm. This is not to say that we must always be successful, but with practice we can change for the better.

Breath out I am calm.

Breath in I am happy.

If I am breathing, then I am not dead yet.

Death is the best invention of life,

for in the face of death,

all trivialities fall away,

and only the essential remains:

Am I breathing or

am I dead ?

Life may be long or short,

I wish you well and peaceful, Master Gu!
Thank you for sharing with us your Daoist wisdom.

Thank you for the videos. I live in New Zealand and learned of Taoism through practicing Qigong. I want to learn more and this is such a practical down to earth way to learn and discuss. Many thanks

They always make it sound so easy. But it's much easier said than done If one can do that when one's house is burning down, or ones child has just been diagnosed with canser, or you just got a perking ticket, you're a better person than I am. I believe it was Master Unmen that said "I love anger, I love joy". Like everyday mind, it gives one something to work with.

When I was first practicing to become a Taoist Monk...my sifu told me to take a deep breathe. That was over 50 years ago...he's dead now...and I've counted up to 1.9 billion so far.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Forget this and attaining equanimity
will be the least of your problems.
Zen saying.

It is far from being easy, even for the most advanced daoists. Some daoists schools focus on jing 靜 "quietness" as a way to reach Dao (the mystical experience of Dao) as explained in the classic Qingjing jing 清靜經. But jing does not mean simply to be calm but rather means to get rid of desires 欲 and ambitions. It is based on the idea found in the Daodejing that "without desires, one can percieve it's mystery", "with desire, one can only see it superficially".

great message. I want to "type" (say) in settings like this video... I always think.... vs. a busy street corner ... it's far easier to be in a "zen" mode.
