Also, you shouldn’t yell at a dog for barking. They’ll just think you’re joining them. Shifting their focus is a lot more effective.

That couple (the woman especially) are natural dog trainers! You could see it in their body language and voices, that they really understand dog's minds. It's great to see, because as a dog trainer, most people will always be rewarding at the wrong times, or in cases like this, where it's important to redirect them at certain time, they'll do it too late.
I just really love seeing people that get something explain to them and say "Oh, okay!" and do it beautifully.

I play the news downstairs to try to lessen outside sounds, but also play the same game as I'm at my desk working. But, my very smart collie mix has learned now that if he barks...I will call....and he will get a treat. Got to love smart breeds. XD I've now upgraded to making him do a series of tricks after I call before I reward.

Just this quick little video is full of so much information. I have a dog just like teddy, and I need to get his barking under control before our baby arrives, or the poor thing will never sleep. I'm going to try this with my husband and continue to search for more tricks and training

I have a dog now, and she doesn't have behavioral issues, she's just got bad vision which makes her bark at stuff that aren't dangerous, like a few days ago when she barked at a shovel. I call her back which sometimes helps, but when she's anxious like that it's kinda hard. But these videos really teach me so much, and I feel so knowledgeable. When I get a new dogs in the future, I'm gonna do my best at training them. My 11-year-old dog has become an old lady, but I try to train at recall to make it easier to get her back when she barks at random stuff, so I recently bought a long leash so I could train her without her being off leash!

Our rescue dog used to bark at shadows at the window or the doorbell but never really anything else. However approx two years ago he lost his hearing (18 years old) which was great from the constant stress of fireworks but not so good for the doorbell any more.
