I am currently working night shift. I have for almost 20 years. I love it. I go to bed around 6 am and I get up at 2pm on work days. I work Friday nights and when I get home around 4 am, I stay up and get my yard work done and my housework and laundry done, then I lay down for about 3 hours. I get up and stay up till about 4 or 5 am. I try and keep my same schedule all week with the exception of my day off on Saturdays. Then Sundays, I'm free to enjoy the day off since I did all my chores on Saturday! By the way, I will be 60 in July. I have no health issues at all that you mentioned. Good luck to you and I wish you success in your life! :)

I'm about to start graveyard shifts in retail and wasn't sure how I am going to work my sleep schedule....I've also heard a fan for white noise, dark sunglasses for sunlight while you are driving, black out curtains, and ear plugs. I really like your strategy of not changing your sleep schedule too much. Thanks for the tips!

Another tip I would give as an overnight pharmacist is, do not eat when you get home.

Have your dinner around 4–5am while at work and keep it high in protein and low in carbs.

I enjoyed working overnights. The problem for me was I felt tired. Like jet lag tired.

Been doing night shift for 9 years. I'm now 32 and having a hard time managing blood pressure. Borderline hypertension with spikes.

I worked night shift for a year or two at Walgreens, the second day of nights was brutal where I felt terrible, but then my body got into it. I think I didn't take advantage of the weeks off as much as I could have. Probably would have gone on a bunch of cruises looking back.

I'm finding these comments very interesting. I'm of the exact opposite and stuggle to work a day shift. I can work the entire day and never wake up but i can work all night no problem, Wide awake. Afternoon and Midnight are my favorite shifts. Hardest part for me is trying to function in a dayshift society. If i could do my shopping and go to the bank at 3am i would. Being a night owl has messed me up for a very long time and has caused alot of challenges in my life. Night shift for some people is great

I started working night shift about 4 years ago, and I go to bed about 7 am and wake up around 3:15 or 3:30 I do this every day and I can fall sleep in about time as I go to bed. Room dark curtains relatively quiet. But the problem. I have an appointment let's 11:00 I push my self to stay awake, however I don't sleep passed the wake up time 3:15. This is so I can maintain my sleep schedule.

Do you only work afternoon/evening shifts at your part time job/s then since you’re asleep from 4AM-11AM on your week off? I work overnights too. My sleep routine is 10AM-6PM on my days on, and 10PM to 6AM on my days off. How I do the switch is on my last morning of the rotation, I go to sleep at 10AM, wake up around 3PM, then go back to sleep again at 10PM that night until I wake up the following morning at 6AM. Sometimes it’s hard to stay asleep at night though, so I would binge watch on Netflix in bed until 6AM. I think I’ll try your routine; it sounds healthier. 👍🏼

I'm about to start working night shift from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. part-time at a navy base. This is my first overnight job so I'm trying to learn some things. It's not bad but might messed me up for a little bit
