🩺ABOUT DR. BREWER
Dr. Brewer started as an Emergency Doctor. After seeing too many preventable heart attacks, he went to Johns Hopkins to learn Preventive Medicine. While there, he went on the run the post-graduate training program (residency) in Preventive Medicine. From there, he made a career of practicing and managing preventive medicine and primary care clinics. His later role in this area was Chief Medical Officer for Premise, which has close to 1,000 primary care/prevention clinics. He was also the Chief Medical Officer for MDLIVE, the second largest telemedicine company. More recently, he founded PrevMed, a heart attack, and stroke prevention clinic.

At PrevMed, we focus on heart attack, stroke, and cognitive decline. We serve patients who have already experienced an event as well as those who have not developed a diagnosis or event. Dr. Brewer provides services via telemedicine or in-person if you're in the Lexington, KY area. We find a lot of undiagnosed prediabetes or insulin resistance. Treating unrecognized risk factors like prediabetes allows reduction of risk and prevention of disease.

Interesting video Doc! Correct me if I am wrong but I think that you meant "Mast" cells rather than "Mass" cells in that diagram?

This gives hope, I started a statin 7 months ago and lost 82lbs with the help of fasting, exercise and eating mostly a whole food diet. Nothing happened tragic with my health to do this, but I was not gonna wait for it to happen. I am 52 and almost at the weight I was at when I was in my early 20's. Thank you so much for the posting.

I have been prescribed statins 4 times in my life. The first 3 times I stopped taking them becuse of muscle pain. After a heart attack at age 80, I did some research and found that low doses of statins can still be helpful in reducing artery inflammation. I am now taking 5mg of rosuvastatin with no side effects.

Hope there will be a study on prolonged fasting and its effect on stabiluzing soft plaque? 7 days, 14 days? ... 40days? With medical supervision in hospital?

I appreciate the doc centering on the urine-based ACR ratio as opposed to simply serum creatinine (and serum eGFR) as these latter two can give a false positive if you have high muscle mass and/or high protein intake

So the objective should be to eliminate the food items that add to the inflammation like seed oils and sugar (carbs)?

Budoff of UCLA claims and has published research that aged garlic extract (removes) soft plaque. I think it said the soft plaque disappeared and was not calcified.

I was curious about adding pecans and walnuts to the diet. I don't eat any type of meats because of a red meat allergy from a tick bite years ago. I do have some walnuts or pecans every day. My ldl and hdl are spot on. My doctor asked me if I had a lot of nuts in my diet like pecans or walnuts to which I replied, "yes". She apparently knew that those nuts helped control the cholesterol levels.
I also take non flush niacin, 500 mcg once or twice a week. I almost immediately feel better and more energetic. This lasts for about one day. I don't take it more often because of side effects. I have been told I have some blockage in the carotid artery as stated by a nurse listening to it and allowing me to listen. The ekg, later at the hospital, said I did not. I suppose I will continue with my squirrelish habits because they seem to be working. How concerned should I be with the two different results? There was a definite whooshing sound while listening through the stethoscope.
I just really enjoy your videos and have been watching quite a few lately.
