NEVER TOO SMALL: Madrid Apartment with Hidden Spa-Like Bathroom, 50sqm/538sqft

Home to Architect Carlos Rebolo Maderuelo, co-founder of Madrid-based studio Taller CRAC, and his partner Alicia, this once dark and dated 1970s apartment has been transformed into a bright, open space featuring an open plan living, dining, and home office area. The unique green, perforated metal structure, referred to as "Metalcore," serves as the core of the home, providing ample storage and housing a luxurious bathroom with a stylish tub, generous washbasin area, and terrazzo sinks. The perforated metal walls allow natural light to stream in, while the wavy shape and texture soften the coldness of the steel. The apartment's design masterfully combines industrial elements with natural warmth, creating a home that feels both contemporary and inviting.

This home feels like a home. Some tiny homes feel like a project, not a permanent space to reside, but this one feels really cosy and settled. The colors are harmonious, calming and the storage are well placed. The wide work space is a plus!

I love everything about this appartment! It is smart, creative, modern, yet unlike some projects shown on this channel, it feels cosy and practical for everyday life: Lots of storage, plants, pictures on the wall, ... you can see it is not just an architectural piece of art but a place where people live. Love how the study can expand the living room, how the kitchen is open yet separated and does not allow guests to see the mess when you're cooking. The green metal box reminds me a lot of a ship container. This would be a great fit here in the harbour city of Hamburg!

That gorgeous green color in combination with the light wood tones looks so good! Beautiful apartment, lovely redesign. The tv placement looks awkward though.

This apartment is gorgeous. And the huge mirrored headboard of the bed - the couple seems to be very visually stimulated 😀

Oh wow the color shade of the metal is gorgeous! I also love the yellow tiles as backsplash in their kitchen. And I love that they did not cover the inner side of the bathroom door. +Great use of metal as side table in their bedroom 👏

So many things to love about this apartment--the sliding door, the great study space, the tiles in the kitchen and bathroom, the storage. A+++ ¡Bien hecho!

I really love the old wooden squared flooring.. 😢

I like how they had to put the before pics in black and white to show how “dated” it was. They had parquet flooring! And mid century modern shelving!

I like how at the beginning they emphasized how narrow the kitchen was, and then proceeded to make it… almost equally narrow. 😂

Also, that bath tub looks nice but I can’t imagine the 90 degree corners being very comfortable.

The yellow shutters on the kitchen window are the cutest things! I also love the green and white bathroom. It's so peaceful

Loved the old apartment finishes. I guess I like the traditional vibe best.

The bathroom door is perforated too, which means ALL the bathroom smells get to float around the apartment, the good smells and the bad smells.
Also the bathtub, while seamless and aesthetic, will be a hassle to clean and maintain. A stainless steel bathtub would have been easier to keep clean and hygenic, or a custom bathtub that's one piece of ceramic - all the grout is unpleasant to clean.
