It’s interesting because my boss is a CEO and her micromanaging is getting worse every year. This year we got new board members and she’s not happy they’re micromanaging her. I just wish she would realize this is how she makes her staff feel.

I’d love your input on red flags… some that I’ve noticed:

1) inverted org chart: the leader with more direct reports than any of his subordinates
2) silence in meetings where only a few feel free to talk
3) Byzantine processes
4) “hands on” self-described

I have an extreme micromanager and have done all of these things, but she doesn’t want to change and get very defensive (cries, gets red in the face, etc) when even something minor comes up about her excessive control. The entire team is looking to find new jobs, it’s pathetic. You are right, micromanagers are the busiest people in the world because they are trying to do it ALL.

I started a new job a month ago, and I'm trying to figure out if my boss is a micromanager or if I'm overreacting. My former boss at my old organization is now my coworker (she helped me get a job here), and she told me sometimes it can feel like we're being micromanaged because our boss might not have enough of her own work to do.

This is a lot of fluff and finally truth. You have to leave. The micromanager will nit pick you out of a job.

I dont mind micromanaging, I dont like to be treated like a second class citizen and be discriminated against at work. Micromanaging is ok, but hostile work environment is not ok... Feeling inadequante every step of the way - stifling your confidence and undermining your work is not ok.

These tips are not what I was expecting. Thank you! There is a lack of CECW in the workplace from either side (boss or employee).
Listening to this, I see where I have been CECW-ing 😂 and where I need to adjust keep moving forward in that. I definitely need a conversation with him. I’m just worried he won’t understand my issues or he will belittle them.

Micromanagement is just a bullying tactic plain and simple and if it's coming from your boss the situation is untenable. Best to try and save if at all possible and find another job. This is why folks job hop so much these days. So tired of these toxic managers!

I remain proactive with my leadership style, so I don't really have problems with micromanagers. I find my style is a good fit for micromanagers.

An honest conversation and a solid gameplan moving forward should alleviate most of the micromanaging.

What about if it's a person new to a leadership role who while in hiring interview tells all/most new employees that she does not micro-manage? In my case I cannot resign at this time and my is even concerned with the effects it's had on my health

Shit advice. Compassion and empathy only trauma bonds an individual being abused.

Micromanagement is bc the boss is mentally insecure

What I do? Just make it seem I’m following all the bullshit and do my own thing anyway. It’s pure arrogance at its core. Egotistical and arrogant.
