Another note, gotta make sure the monitor/TV supports 4K @ 120HZ+ through HDMI specifically for next gen consoles if someone is going that route.

Many affordable/older 4K monitors advertising high refresh rates may be through Displayport ONLY, not HDMI. Read reviews or double check specs for this and double check your old HDMI cables:

4k @ 120 Hz = HDMI 2.0 (2.1 for HDR) cable*
2k @ 144hz = HDMI 2.0 cable*
2k or 1080p @ 120hz = HDMI 1.4 cable*
*console/video card output compatibility as well

Also Next-gen Consoles PS5/Xbox will support VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) if the TV supports it through HDMI 2.1. This tech prevents image/screen tearing which is noticeable especially on larger TV screens. (For PC monitors this is called G-sync or AMD Freesync).

IMHO shelling out for a high quality/feature rich 2k/120-144hz HDMI 2.0/2.1 monitor setup is probably the way to go for both console and PC for competitive shooters/close-sitting setups. there's a reason it's the eSports standard.

If you need a screen larger than 32" for sitting further away, and don't play competitive games then a 42"-55" 4k/120hz TV should be just fine and console future proof.

I switch between tv and monitor but I recently haven’t been playing much competitive games. I’ve been playing single player rpgs like horizon zero dawn (and soon horizon forbidden west), god of war, etc. and I think now colors and a good image are more important to me than a high refresh rate

Just bought an ultrawide gaming monitor, Have to say I wasn't expecting the gaming improvements I saw. The gameplay felt smoother (high refresh rate I guess), I could react and see better because of how detailed and bright the screen was, I got more kills than ever. Previously I was using a 65 inch 4k LG tv with 60 hz refresh rate.

Nice man! Solid links that are actually affordable. As you may know, sometimes it's a bummer watching a review or video and someone puts the link in the description below but the monitor they have and recommend cost at least 400 dollars like the Asus you have in here. So thank you for having other options in there for those of us who can't really afford that.

I was thinking about getting a 4k TV but you just convinced me to opt for a Gaming Monitor instead. Thanks a lot man

I've played a lot on both. Currently I have a preference for TV, but it depends on the game. Loved your setup by the way ^_^

I'm still using my Benq Gl2760 27 inch monitor that I bought back at the end of 2017 but didn't use til the beginning of 2018. It was my first gaming monitor at only 60hz for my Xbox one S but I did notice a huge difference in my response time and made things a whole lot easier when gaming. Plus, I can see the detail of the graphics in a game or the detail when watching a big screen movie on Blu Ray or streaming like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings and see things going on that I couldn't when watching on my living room 50 inch flatscreen! I had to keep turning my head and missed some things on the living room flatscreen! Ugh! Anyway, I'm hoping to upgrade to a 144hz monitor with the ability to sync with my graphics card on my PC around Christmas! Great info, man!

There's a decent amount when it comes to TVs and Monitors for Series consoles. The biggest is what resolution do you want to hit and at what frame rate. This will really define what you end up going with as the requirements may be fairly different, especially on monitors that use both HDMI and DP connections.

I'm a 50/50 PC/Console player, and I have used my PS4 on my 27inch 1080p VA panel from AOC, though I use the PS4 more often for streaming or playing Blu-Rays on my FullHD TV these days, yes there are still a lot of old school gamers/movie watchers that prefer owning physical media. I've ripped 90% of my movie/TV collection to my PC's HDD and can stream it via Plex to any Smart-TV in my home. If I ever manage to buy the PS5 I'll probably hook it up to my gaming monitor to get that smoothness.

@2:41 : Can confirm on response time. I have Tetris on a different platform, switch and ps5. The ps5 version feels okay on the big tv, but sometimes i can't maneuver the tetriminos fast enough. The switch version on big tv : big no. The addition of controller and response time delay on switch, just adds up too much. Hooking up the switch to my gaming monitor is such a night and day experience. In my opinion; the response time delay is even smaller than the switch's built in screen itself.

I have my xbox plugged on my monitor in my office and when the wife needs to work at home I just take the console and plug it to the 4K TV in the living room

I have the LG CX OLED 65” Tv and I’m switching to a gaming monitor for COD and online multiplayer games for my Xbox Series X! It really is a much more comfortable experience. Monitor I ordered is the Samsung Odyssey G7 4K with HDMI 2.1 28” size. I was currently using a 1440p monitor. But since I enjoy the experience so much more then the larger TV I’m upgrading the monitor ;) great video!

I’m a veteran in call of duty. And crossplay nowadays, I find that pc gamers and/or console players with gaming monitors are beating me one on one most often then not. I’m gonna invest in a good gaming monitor and hope for the best. I’m an og call of duty 4 modern warfare xbox 360 player. And frames and clarity is so important in 2021. I’m no boomer. I’m 25. I just happen to play cod since I was 10 years old. Anyways get a good monitor with frames and clarity guys.

Once you reach mid-high end TVs such as OLED, Mini-led or FALD led, no monitor comes close in image quality

I’m only now torn between an LG27GP850 or a 32GP850. Used to gaming on a 65inch 4k TV but since I now have more gamers in my house a monitor seems like a good option as a screen to game on when my other tv is occupied.
