Getting an HDMI 2.1 monitor for PS5 is good for taking advantage of all the features. If the game does not support all the bells and whistles, at least it's able to make sure the rest of the boxes are checked. It makes it nice to switch from FPS games to an adventure or RPG game.

FYI, the Sceptre is NOT compatible with Series X to run 1440 x 120hz. It's something to do with VESA timing/the EDID. You can get 1440p 60 or 1080p 120. I bought this because of the price and it was a really nice colorful monitor, but had to return due to the above. I would recommend it to a budget minded PC player.

What I find confusing is, I'm pretty sure when you play at 120fps, the console downscales your resolution in order to achieve those frames. If you only care about performance, then all you need is a 1080p or 1440p monitor, or am I missing something? So what's the point of having a 4k 144hz when most games if not all games are locked at 30 to 60fps when playing at 4k? Genuinely curious.

Hey everyone, I just came across this video and wanted to tell you about my experience

I game on PlayStation 5. I have the Dell G2724D 27inch 1440p monitor which has HDMI 2.1 and support VRR and really fast response time

What I’ve discovered is although it has a HDMI 2.1 it only has the bandwidth of HDMI 2.0. VRR still works though

However, it’s annoying because in order to use VRR, I have to turn off HDR and put the monitor in console mode and that makes all the graphics a little blurry

So I’ve tested both VRR on and off on FPS games like COD which has 120Hz and it looks and feels faster when VRR is off

It could just be me however, I think to get VRR working properly, you actually need HDMI 2.1 that actually has the 2.1 bandwidth, which only found on the more expensive 4K monitors

Does anyone else think FPS games look and feel faster without VRR?

If anyone knows a way to have VRR working with HDR on, please let me know, so I can test it and see if VRR will look and feel faster with the HDR graphics

Also, I tried 4K 120Hz on my friends PlayStation 5 and to be honest it looked and felt slower than my old 1080p 120Hz and my current 1440p 120Hz. After doing some research, I came across a lot of people say although PS5 advertises 4K at 120Hz, it doesn’t play at that resolution and frame rate natively and I think they’re correct

I recently bought the MSI G274QPF at Costco for 220 bucks which is an insane steal for a gaming monitor! 1440p resolution, 170hz refresh rate, Wide Color Gamete, Rapid IPS panel, 27 inch which is the sweet spot screen size for my desk setup and has more connection ports ! And was very satisfied as my early Christmas present!

Got the M32U price matched to an open box at Microcenter for $540 and I love it. Perfect compliment to the 4090 and XBSX.

For what it's worth the Gigabyte MU32 cost NZ$1449 (US$900) here in New Zealand but we always have been screwed over big time when it comes to electronics etc.

Thank you for explaining VRR and very good job with the pictures. Also a question. Why is the resolution referred to as 1440p instead of 2550p whereas in the other resolutions we’re referring to the resolution with the highest number?

Anyone wanting a monitor for Xbox or ps5 this is what you need to know. Either be prepared to spend 1000 dollars for 4K 120 hz or just get 1440 120 hz which is what I recommend. I got asus vg27qalia it was only 300 dollars and it has had zero problems rated for extremely low input lag and honestly I used to have a 4K monitor and you can hardly tel the difference. But what I will say for sure is definitely prioritize frame rate over resolution if you are on on a budget

I'm trying to get the gigabyte mu28 monitor now it's 499.99 that's probably the lowesr price you can get for a 4k hdmi 2.1 monitor

I’m just looking to play my ps5 on 1080p with 120fps… looking for the budget entry level monitor but I have no clue where to look.. not worried about 4K at all

For my Xbox series X I use the Samsung - Odyssey G7 28" IPS 1ms 4K 144hz. It’s a little expensive but I love it. Can’t go wrong with a 2 K monitor. Used to have the 27” HP Omen 2k 165hz. Loved that monitor too.

I didn't realize with Xbox it was Freesync capable OR HDMI 2.1....I thought it had to be HDMI 2.1 which really limited options. Thanks!

Probably wait for another year or two to go this route due to a future move. The big issue is I'd probably go for a duel monitor setup (doing casual gaming streams) so would have the PS5 on one monitor and the PC on the other so I could keep an eye on the stream and now need to decide if I should get:
1) two good monitors
2) one really good one for the gaming half and a cheap one for the watching half

so do you think it’s worth to spend a little more for the hdmi 2.1 and have 4K at 120fps or should I get to the hdmi 2.0 and just run 120fps at 1080p?

You may already have a video on this, but for the sake of saving time would you mind making a video on TVs that are best for the PS5 or consoles in general?
