As an employee at my local dog pound and adoption center, every single person interested in a GSD, I tell them point blank that they need a boss more than a friend! And socialize them beyond what they believe is enough. I worked with a GSD who seemed pretty solid and well socialized until we ventured out one evening for a walk along our local creek. This dog lost his mind when trying to get him to be near stepping stone sized rocks. So we found a spot kinda near the bank, and every few minutes I would scoot my butt closer to the rocks. His curiosity in me eventually led to him inching closer as well. By the end of our second trip out, I had him walking across the creek with me on the rocks and downed trees. It’s a sight to behold when you help a dog past something that is holding them up a tad bit. But I’m soooo fascinated by the GSD and their behavior and just the way they go about their day. Amazing breed who needs a boss, a confident owner and love.

Thank you! I'm a dog walker and I've learned this with my well trained shepherds. They are such easy dogs to read through the leash. Except for my Malinois she's the one who you need to be on point for, so much engery. ❤

Thank you so much for that, i have gsd, 3, she's amazing but, this video showed me a lil bit more i need to work on. I tense up on the leash, when i, think there's a "possible" reason to. And she's like, what? Looking at me, and there was no reason, just MY INSECURITY.

I have a 2 year GSD. It is a CONSTANT battle to be boss. If i relent a little in any area, he takes over immediately!

I'm struggling in the house especially. Nobody can come in. Ugh.

So if he (5 month GSD) gets a few paces in front of me that’s not worth correcting? He’s not pulling, but about half the time he’s right on my hip the other half he’s a step or two in front of me but it’s at the same pace
