My rescue dog was predicted to be a ‘60 lbs max border collie/lab’ mix. Instead, he’s a 90 lbs GSD mix, and is very shepherd-y. I’ve learned a lot about how to meet his needs from this channel. Thank you, Tom!!

Arctic, my White German Shepherd, has never been aggressive but your videos have made all the difference in instilling confidence in what was once an anxious dog. His most recent vet visit was absolutely amazing! He accepted treats and was very calm and polite. I told Dr. B that Arctic was med free and no longer seeing the animal behaviorist (whose methods didn’t improve his anxiety even a little), and he was stunned. I recommended balanced training and your videos, so hopefully he’ll pass that along to others who are desperate for hope and an actual solution.

Arctic was so awesome, I wished I had the visit on video to review later since a lot gets missed in the moment. So it was very cool when a couple of days ago, we were in view of our doorbell camera when me, Arctic, and Fidget our five month old English Cream Golden, were heading back from the mailbox. I was loaded down with packages which wasn’t ideal, but there’s no locking them back in the lockbox once it’s opened. I saw that the neighbor dog was in his front yard, which gave me pause, but… we needed to get back to the house, so on we went. The neighbor dog saw us, it’s about Arctic’s size, and it got away from the neighbor and raced toward us. I said “stop, ” and Arctic did. He stood right beside me, completely calm, as the dog tore down the sidewalk. Fidget was thrilled, she doesn’t know enough not to be, but after bouncing a couple of times she took Arctic’s cue and settled on my other side. That’s fortunate, because loaded with packages as I was, forget leash pressure or correction of any kind. The neighbor yelled at his dog, he was rather panicked, but we weren’t. I’m certain after watching the video that it was Arctic’s demeanor that turned the dog around and sent it flying back to the neighbor. I was so proud of Arctic, and watched the video over and over. If not for your videos, it would’ve been very different! Arctic would have been at the end of the leash determined to get to the other dog, not because he’s ever been aggressive, but he wasn’t always obedient and we weren’t always a team. We wouldn’t have Fidget either, because if Arctic was still over-the-top anxious I wouldn’t have been willing to add another dog to our mix. So thank you, because your instruction has caused ripple effects that are continuing to bless us all.

Adopted my pup when he was two years old. You’ve been an unbelievable help. Looks like he’s German Shepherd and Doberman. The way you describe German Shepherd behavior has been a huge help to me. Never had this type of dog before. Even though I’ve had dogs all my life, German shepherds sure are different, but absolutely wonderful. Thanks so much.

In a recent video you mentioned not looking down while walking and I am SO guilty of doing that. I have become a lot more aware and am working being more confident on our walks 🙌🏻

Applicable to majority of dogs who are not couch potatoes ❤ learning about your dog's motivation and using it while planning the right activities is massive! I found out a little late for my some-shepherd & some-bully breed mix (rescue), but survived thanks to your videos and now training our a** out for obedience and maybe some nosework exams 🎉

Our GSD/Pit has come a long way and so have I! Being educated about breeds and finding the right training methods is everything. Thanks Tom 🐾

I have a GSD named Kimber, she was a rescue, when I first got her she was scared of boxes, water, forests, loud talking and people raising their hands, they didn’t even have to be by her. Now 4 years later she goes with me in stores, loves water, happily runs beside me in forests, and comes with me to my public speaking events, which has helped her with the fears of boxes and people raising their hands. Now in hopefully a year she will be joining along side me in the volunteer search and rescue team. I have gotten a DNA test on her and she’s 79% German Shepard, and somehow 2% chihuahua in total she has 8 different breeds. Since I have moved to Alaska and finally moved into a house she doesn’t really have a job set for her, I’m trying to figure out what job she can have, for now it’s keep the cats out of the kitchen, she gave herself the job of patrolling the snow trails around the front yard, which is adorable to watch, since you can only see her ears and tail bobbing up in down.

Have learned so much and gained valuable information over the years through your channel for our GS, Odin. He’s 2 now. He isn’t perfect, but it’s always a work-in-progress. Keep up the great work! Cheers!

This is great!! I've been slacking a little with my GSD and it's showing. Good timing to get my butt in gear with him. Love your videos!! 😊

Per usual this is a fantastic video. I do have a question maybe you could address in another video. What are some good jobs to give your German Shepherd?

My little rescue Frenchie male is fear reactive to sounds, strange dogs and people at a distance. This video is so helpful to remind me to improve his basic obedience and my leadership skills. Thank you Tom! ❤

I love videos like this!!! I have 2 male GSD’s who are very well mannered but not perfect for sure. Your mindset has helped me sooo much in making my dogs more well rounded and respectable pets out in the community! We can take our boys anywhere and we are constantly complimented on how beautiful and amazing they are…thanks for all you do! You’ve given me the confidence to have such amazing and powerful dogs! My dachshund on the other hand…she’s a work in progress 😂😂😂

My GSD is 11 months and your guidance through all the free content you’re consistently updating, has been 100 percent effective and priceless. My boy Rowdy is a working line and he’s almost 90 pounds now. The significance of routine and consistency have been huge for us. Our relationship evolves everyday and it’s been the best experience I have ever been privileged to take part in. Sorry for the long winded comment but I think you should be reminded more often how valuable your movement is to people like me that aren’t financially well off or able to find affordable trainers. Funny though, being broke has shown me that most of the progress between Rowdy and I just comes from my drive and willingness to pay attention to his behaviors in ways a lot of trainers would probably just throw him food or say he’s too aggressive. I’m grateful to have been able to find the confidence in myself too get educated and stay open minded. You da man Tom lol😊! Really, thank you so much.

The bonus tip doesn’t really apply to me since I rescued mine from a shelter. I suspect he’s an American bred working line. But he doesn’t have as much drive as I have seen from other working lines. But he’s definitely not show line. And I got him with really bad reactivity, I’ve spent the past 2 years working with him to bring that down. He’s way better than he was when I got him but not where I feel he should be and I know that’s on me, but I’m not to sure what else I can do.

Too many people will watch this whole video and brush over point #1!! Physical and mental exercise is KEY to the overall wellbeing of a GSD. An absolute must. NBD!!

I have a Czech working line 8 month old. She’s become reactive and we’ve socialized her a ton since 6 weeks old. She’s mostly reactive when she’s with me and it’s random. This was a helpful video.

I have a three year old GSD, she was raised during covid so we were not able to socialize her properly so she doesn't love when we have company over or other dogs. Thank you for your excellent videos, they have helped us so much! Her obedience is good but we are working on making it great.
