Im a professional dog trainer, and this advise is spot on! Feel free to reward with treats. I also encourage teaching your dog to sit before crossing any streets.

Most importantly consistency is key! Great points so many miss this!

You’re the most helpful dog trainer on YT I’ve found. No one else explains it and demonstrates it the way you do and I’m so greatful for that!
My yellow lab likes to take the lead when we go on walks, she knows the direction we’re going and not to engage with other dogs but she still likes to be the leader. This is going to help so much. She used to be a hunting dog so now that she’s with us and is a home dog, she probably understands that she has more freedom and takes advantage of that.

I use this as part of my training as well. But I do wish this kind of thing would be shown with dog that are a bit more reactive. This dog barely looked at the other one, when you Troyes to show his being „reactive“

I would say yes use the Dizzy trick however certain dogs are just different best thing I like is making them pause make them sit down don't be in a rush

As a professional in this field I support this video. Exactly the way I train. If they are treat motivated, even better I. An mark when they are in that perfect spot.

I took a fearful dog that was 18months old and never had a leash on his neck in his whole life, let alone a harness. I took a 3m leash so the dog could sniff around me for the first few min. Then I started to lead her very friendly more and more to one side. And I engaged with her. She was a working herding dog and walked aroudn me. And yes at first i turned round too. Within 15min I very slowly got her conscious for more and more leading. Later i walked her off leash just to get her used to me. After 90min we went to the train and went home. She was fearfull in the train because she knew nothing but her kennel. But she chose to be very close to me and get to know everything from the safety of my side.

I walk both my dogs together and I think my biggest problem is them constantly moving around. They switch sides every 5 seconds, slow down or speed up randomly, always moving around to sniff every little thing, which also constantly makes me trip on them. They do good on walks, it’s just the actual walking part that’s the problem. Not to mention the fact that one of my dogs seems to want to be as far away from whoever is walking her(not just a me thing, it’s whoever is holding the leash) as possible and I’m not sure why.

Id say consistency and repetition are better descriptors!
Same goes for cbt which ik seems random but woth adhd i think about cbt all the time bc it makes a huge difference for me and my dog. (Cognitive behavioral training)

I taught my dog to walk on the side of the road. Not just beside me. But beside me in between me and the side of the road I’m on. Whenever I’m crossing the road I have a command for that too. First thing I taught her was stay, and that it’s non negotiable. Also she knows if trouble ever comes knocking to hide behind me. Personally I like it more that way. Less of a chance some asshat speeding is gonna blindside my baby. Also less of a chance some reactive aggressive dog is going to hurt her. You’re doing great work.

Lots and lots of sudden turns. Works great!!

I’d rather walk my dog on my right so they aren’t closer to the road. Got to protect my baby where I can while teaching her how to behave.

Mr. Sam. I have two dogs. What do I do for them in terms of walking sides? They sometimes like to walk next to eachother when heeling or loose leashing, and sometimes they like to walk on either side of me. Do I need them both to be on the same side of me, or do I need to choose an assigned side for them?

I’m apparently a terrible dog master but I have happy dogs. I let them sniff and go anywhere they want, they run around me and I will just unwrap myself all the time. When we arrive on the fields I unleash them so they can choose their own speed. But I also live in a small town, on the outskirts. I don’t take them downtown ever.

My biggest thing with training a dog to walk on lead is that I am between them and what ever street we are walking along thankfully my dogs have all quickly picked up on the fact that I don't want them between the cars and my body I do this in this manner because the road might not always be on the right side of where we are walk and drivers are more likely to see a person than a dog even if the dog is huge

I trained my dog to walk on my right side because I wanted him on the outside of the trail/sidewalk/road/pavement (we lived in Southern CA). Now we live in England & he walks on the "wrong" side 😂

One thing I do is talk to my dog so she looks at me. Her and I very closely bonded and we have conversations. Might sound crazy but she pays attention to me.
