Step 1: Write out the steps I need to complete said task
Step 2: Realize said task has a lot of steps
Step 3: Abandon task and watch fail videos on YouTube

This is a really good example, the only thing that was unrealistic was the person understanding

ADHD is when you develop a ton of life hacks to help prevent any of this happening and then your brain decides to come up with all the ways it can cheat those life hacks because they feel like work

Its not just 'washing the dishes', its checking each room for dishes, collecting them, putting them in the sink, actually scrubbing them, then putting them away after letting them dry. For ADHD people, we perceive each step ae a distinct task

Just knowing there are others like myself struggling with the same things…. It makes me feel valid! Thank you for putting words to the thoughts and feelings!

It's the whole steps involved!!! Like "you're hungry go make a sandwich" is more like "ugh have to stand up, walk to kitchen, get bread, open bread, open fridge, grab supplies, close fridge, open again for forgotten supplies, close Yea not hungry any more"

I watch this as I’m actively trying to build up the energy to do the dishes…. It has to be done but it’s so overwhelming right now and people without ADHD don’t understand how that could possibly be.

I think this is the reason it seems so much easier to wash someone else's dishes. There's not a bunch of other stuff attached to it.

Getting food in the kitchen is over 9 tasks for me. For someone else they see it as the one overarching task, but whether I want to or not I see every aspect I have to do to get that task accomplished.

“…our mind is an exhausting place.” Nailed it!

It is so hard to start a task when you know from experience that it isnt just one task - it is the first task that sets off a domino set of tasks that spiral in ways you know you cant predict. Just thinking about what one task can grow into is exhausting.

Thank you so much for doing these. I use them as examples to show neurotypicals AND to provide VALIDATION for me and my kids 😊

the most unrealistic part is them actually trying to listen and understand

Thank you!! ✨ I’ve always needed a explanation to why I always feel this way and no one ever listens but am glad I found this

-Write down task to be done
-wake up 3 month later to a desk full of papers of task to be done
-hide said papers somewhere with the promess to go back to it later, when the new task to be done are going to be finish
-go back to first step.

Podcasts, audible, fecking life savers, I get that distraction I need to be able to continue focusing on my tasks, while my brain's focus is on what I'm listening to the other half of my brain is doing the dishes or cleaning but isn't getting distracted by random shlt because it's already distracted constantly, just not on something halfway across the house
