TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (1990) Is Totally Radical! | Movie Reaction | First Time Watch

Achara & Kristen watched the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film from 1990 for the very first time. Watch their minds were blown at how awesome it was!

Fun fact, Pat E. Johnson was the choreographer for this film. He's worked on a lot of classics such as the films responsible for Cobra Kai, The Karate Kid, The Karate Kid Part II and The Karate Kid Part III. He did Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, The Next Karate Kid, Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat Annihilation. He was a coordinator on Punisher: War Zone, Batman & Robin and Battle Creek Brawl. And he was a fight coordinator on Brandon Lee and Dolph Lundgren's Showndown in Little Tokyo. And he did stunts in the classic Enter the Dragon.

It's amazing how well this movie holds up. It's probably more well regarded now than it was back in the 90's. Also, the suits and puppetry in the first two movies are unmatched, in my opinion. The tech and skill that went into this is incredible. The Jim Henson Company went above and beyond for the Turtle movies.

Still the best on screen version of TMNT. The costumes are a Perfect balance between the original Eastman & Laird comics and the late 80's cartoon.

This movie balances the playfulness and aesthetics of the 80s cartoon wild being dark with serious tones like the original comic. This movie is a classic 🔥

The actor that portrayed Raphael had a cameo as the passenger (going to La Guardia) in the cab that Raph jumps over. The one that portrays Michelangelo was the pizza delivery guy who couldn’t find the place. The one who portrayed Donatello was the foot soldier that slapped April in the subway and the one who portrays Leonardo was a gang member in the warehouse during Casey’s fight with Tatsu. 9:49 no it’s not their kid. April said “your father” meaning he’s yours you deal with him and his dad meant his wife at home. 19:45 the story of the turtles is Splinter’s master and Shredder were competitors back in Japan. 23:07 he was of the mind if he couldn’t have her then no one could have her. 25:22 especially with the way the masks were. They had animatronics in the heads to move the mouth and eyes. Earlier when Casey knocked Raph in the trash can it crushed the animatronics in the head smashing it into the stunt doubles face breaking his nose. If you watch carefully when he gets out of the can you briefly see him grabbing his nose. Hope you’ll at least do the second one. The third one is ok but feels like they just threw something together. An interesting story about the turtles is that the ooze that created them is the same ooze that caused Matt Murdoch (Daredevil) to lose his sight. They even say it’s from the same accident. The soundtrack from the first two movies are really good.

this is my all time favorite childhood movie, thank you for reacting to it, nothing brings me back to the 90's like this movie. having no cgi, just makes feel more real, thats why the live action turtles can never compare to this masterpiece imo.

If you don't get emotional every time Splinter has a heart-to-heart with a teenager, you have no soul

I and many children were fortunate that this version of the Turtles were apart of our childhoods as opposed to the Michael Bay remakes because a lot could be said for using the basic practical effects of the 90's to bring the Turtles to life. I just hope the time comes soon that the comic TMNT: The Last Ronin will get a live-action film, whether it be animated or real life.

One of my favorite movies as a kid! I remember watching this on TV back in the 1990's!

Hands down the best out of all the Ninja Turtles movies that have been done. I especially love the scene where the Turtles are camping out in the woods and they channel Master Splinter's spirit.

Jim Henson's Creature Shop designed all the turtles and Master Splinter puppets.

Spring 1990; you had to be there. This was an example of a movie based on a trend coming out exactly the right time, and being close enough to the source to be well-received. The brand had just reached the level of mass appeal with two different popular video games and expanded toy line. This being a live action film involving costumes and puppeteering was intriguing alone. Even with elements that were unlike what was shown in the cartoon - darker; a different kind of April O'Neill; no Rocksteady and Be-Bop or Krang - it all worked.

Fun Fact (for those who don't know): Sam Rockwell from Green Mile and Charlie's Angel's plays the main thug who tries to rob April in the opening

Also SIDE Fact: Skeet Ulrich from Scream and Riverdale plays a side thug during the fight between Casey and Tatsu

The last film Jim Henson directly worked on that he attended the premiere of before his passing.
This movie's success allowed the cartoon series to be picked up by CBS for a further 6 seasons following the 1st season's release in 1987.

I watched this opening night in the theater as a kid and was blown away. Beyond the buffoonery that was the cartoon, the movie had a philosophical depth and heart that really took it to the next level. Not for nothing, but the creative risks this movie took made it the number one grossing independent film for the next 9 years.

Donatello and Casey insulting each other through alphabetic sequences is still one of my favorite bonding moments from cinema.

This movie will always be a part of me...

I was just a little kid when I first started collecting turtle stuff, Comics, figures, and trade cards, as well as many other things.. I remember one day I came home to find that my mother had thrown out every action figure and card I had, as well as most of my comics.. She replaced them with a phone and a fish tank.. She said I was getting too old for kid toys, and that I would grow out of them any way.. I was about 9... So when the movie was released I was the first one there on the first day it was released to theaters.. I collected some of the figures later on, but I never had a collection that was even close to my first.. I have almost every cartoon movie made on tape, several copies of all three live action movies, and this one on DVD... I never grew out of the turtles, and I know I never will.. I know all three movies word for word... When every one grows up, a part of them, a big part dies, and we forget what we loved so much as children.. Our Imagination dies, and an adult is born.. I simply refuse to let my heros go.. While the years pass and the turtles are forgotten, they will forever be a reminder to me of the times I could spend hours on end with nothing but myself and my action figures that came to life right in front of me with nothing more than my imagination....
