Blender 3.3 - New Hair Grooming System - The Pros and Cons

preview_player
Показать описание

In this video i compare the new blender 3d 3.3 LTS release's brand new hair grooming system that supports sculpt mode and geometry nodes.

I compare it with the old particle based hair system and see how the new blender 3.3 lts version holds up to the old method.

Making hair in blender is really easy. In case you want a tutorial on how to make hair like i made in this tutorial, let me know in the comments.

This is a blender 3d beginner tutorial on hair grooming. it also covers hair grooming for beginners using the particle system.

The blender 3d Hair particle system seems more powerful right now, but the new hair system of blender 3.3 LTS will take over soon.

Apparently PPL do not think the new one looks more realistic.
But also a bunch of PPL said on zooming in a little, the old one looks kinda fake. What do you guys think?

You can also convert the new hair system to the old particle hair system and vice versa. And yes, I would really like to see how you groomed your animals. Thank you.

It`s Geometry node that adds by default upon hair creation slows down work with hair significantly.

They should ship these geometry nodes setups as presets with blender directly. Nobody can expect me to come up with these geometry nodes just to add noise to my hair. In the old system you could control it via a slider but in the new system I cannot control it at all when I have no knowledge of geometry nodes…

Great video I can not wait to mess around with this when I get a chance.

The problem with hair is that creates so many geometries that your pc could not calculate if it isn't powerful enough. The new system has the interpolate modifier which often refuses to work. In Blender 3.4 you can add collision to hair, but it looks as if they don't care about that. It's about a month that I'm going mad with hair and I haven't found a satisfying solution yet.

Really nice work. I would be interested how you set up the render and the lights! looks amazing :)

Another con, is that the symmetry isn't symmetrical if you add more than 1 hair strand. It will be approximate, but not exact, unless you copy the hair curves and mirror it.

Density hair brush is 100% better for me, because I've never been able to get the interpolated particles to work for me. In the new system you can also use the add hair brush with interpolation turned on

Great tutorial, entertaining and informative, just the way it should be. I have to say, until this node-based system can handle hair movement/animation baking, the old particle system is going to win every time

How do you make the hair take on the color of the skin underneath?

From my point of view, the new hair system is 1 big step forward and 2 steps back. Not being able to add hairs all over the mesh with one click is really annoying. Sometimes I need hair quickly, for example on a wardrobe or whatever kind of cloth. Now, with the new hair system, it is not possible at the moment.

That's really cool. I wonder how you set the material to the hair and which material you used.

amazing tut!!! Have not managed to figure this whole thing out yet, but ur explanation is rly good. Thnk u :)
one thing I have not managed to figure out is, how do you use a map imported from somewhere else as the texture for the fur?
got a texture map from Substance, and wanted to apply it as a material the way you could do it with the old particle system, but no idea how :(

i would like to see the rendering settings to render a fur like at 09:40.
how many samples, denoise on/off, light bounces, etc. may be how fast particles compared to new hair system (or visa versa)

First congratulations for the video. I have two doubts. The first is how, in Blender, can I select and export to Character Creator version 3.4 just the Beard and Hair created in Blender 3.3 by this Hair Grooming process? The second doubt: I have a Notebook with Windows 10 pro, Video Graphic Cards: Radeon (TM) 520 and Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620? Will I be able to work with this processing to create the Hair and Beards in Blender to export to Character Creator 3.4? I can't wait and thank you in advance
