Can't stay consistent?

Consistency is needed for progress in almost anything!

If you're having trouble staying consistent, then it might help to:

1.) Have a planned routine.

and

2.) Make it simple and convenient for yourself to do that routine sustainably.

There are other reasons we may have trouble staying consistent or have "low motivation." For example, malnutrition, poor sleep, hectic lifestyle, mental health etc. Those might be harder to solve.

The good news is that maintaining a consistent practice, however simple, often helps many of those things! Lucky us.

Have a wonderful day!

A good advice in designing a system or routine: design it for the tired, lazy version of you because that's the version that's gonna use that.

-There is no up or down, man. IT'S CRAZY!

Speaking with people about body weight work outs. Alot of people think it doesn’t work. They legitimately think unless it’s a weight at the gym you won’t get in shape. I had someone tell me recently they go to the gym to cycle bike. I said why don’t you grab a real bike and ride around, which they then told me doesn’t get you in shape. Only the bikes at gyms do.

I am both horrified and impressed the marketing of gyms in North America have done to people thinking what it takes to get in shape.

The absolute genius of asking an astronaut in 0 Gravity "Whats up" is criminally underappreciated. Since the definition of "up" is the direction exactly opposite to the strongest gravitational force acting on an object, and an astronaut in true 0 gravity has NO gravitational force acting on them, they would literally be the one person in the universe UNABLE to define "what is up"

This is exactly why I have basic gear at home and I can easily get a full workout in the time it would take for me to get ready and driving time to and from the gym.

I live 1.5km from my gym. Easy distance by bike, but sometimes I still grabbed the car because…. Well, every reason I could come up with.
First thing I did in the gym? Riding a bike or walking a treadmill as a warm-up. Then it came up to me…riding my bike to the gym could be part of my warm-up and in the gym I can start my workout immediately. That mindset saved me time overall and helped me being consistent riding my bike to the gym.

Your channel has been the only one that has actually made me start exercising semi consistently, so many other fitness or workout channels are so high energy and fast that i just felt too much pressure to improve quickly and ended up feeling like a failure for not matching their goals, the fact that yoi dont make time oriented goals and you encourage people to follow their own rhythm is really refreshing, thanks for making this accessible for absolute beginners

Been going to the gym since Feb and I just overcame this hurdle. I was going 2x a week, Mon and Wed. I felt like I was dragging my ass there and the exercises my personal trainer gave me were still as hard as when I first went. Then I realised that when I went to the gym before my life took a nose dive in the physical department, I was going 5x a week, with only the weekends off. So, I bumped up my gym days. Going 4x a week and I'm loving it! I walk to and from the gym, getting in all my reps and sets, the exercises are getting easier even with increasing the weights, and I have energy to spare to take my dog out immediately when I get home. Not to mention, my mood is absolutely stellar! Rehired my PT to go even further starting in May!

I forgot to mention the best part! I've had so much pain, specifically in my left hip and lower back for over 15 years. I had to use a cane for 7 of those years because I was limping so bad. Finally, a doctor listened to me and turns out I have a rare muscle disorder! 2 years ago, I started physio. Today, I walk with no pain at all!

Thank you, Hampton. Today beat me down hard, and you always help me remember that there is love & kindness still to be found in the world.

Breaking down a longer workout into 10-20 minute micro workouts focused on a specific task (strength, volume etc) throughout the day is also a good way to approach this.

Calisthenics and resistance bands are lifesavers. Just today, i woke up feeling lazy, didn't want to get my stuff and drive to the gym. So I picked up some resistance bands laying around and did work in my pajamas while watching south park lol.

Sometimes you just need a lazy option.

Atomic Habits was right about this. Make the things you want to do obvious, attractive, easy, and satisfying!

I was about to pay a premium gym membership (with a 50% discount as a benefit from my workplace) and my kinesiologist told me that she was going to teach some classes. Her prices were ok but it costed more than the membership (a bit more than full price). But after thinking deeply there were far more chances that I keep consistent with my kinesiologist than the gym. Now I’m doing stretching and strengthening with her and I really like it.

You are by far the only person I've found so far who actually makes me interested in wanting to try working out (which is something I need and want to do...one day...😅)

Omg! I have been consistent for the last two months. I have been working on the progressions push ups, leg raises, pull ups, squats, bridges and twists. I feel amazing. I have rehabilitated long standing injuries. This has been great

I spend a lot of time by myself at work (not allowed to be remote, but often the only one there). I’ve started finding workouts I can do while at work to get myself out of my desk. I’ve been so much more consistent and more motivated to workout both at work and at home. Just don’t tell my job. 🤫😜

Wise words! As someone who has been training for 25 years this is the most important advice for anyone on their fitness journey. Consistency
Consistency
Consistency.
During covid I came up with a 30 minute body weight work out that I could do at home with just 5 body weight compound exercises that do my whole body.
Dips
Table rows
Sumo squats
Pike push ups
Reverse planks.
Just 3-4 rounds of each exercise depending on my energy levels and I am done. Three times per week. Along with walking my dog daily and some 10 minute stretching before bed each night. Small things done consistently add up to bigger things in the long run👍
