What a great idea! Now those of us who have Prismacolor pencils no longer need to wonder if we are missing something.

Yes, Electric Blue is grainy like that. I have been using Prismacolor for at least 12+ years and that color has always been like that. I have yet to find one that isn't. Very likely it has something to do with the pigment. I also have had an issue recently with my Tuscan Red. It seems to be the same way, at least the last few pencils I have received in my sets have been like this. Thank you for making this video, very helpful for those of us who do not have the Holbeins pencils. I was able to order some Holbein watercolor paints recently and really like them. I am hoping to get the pencils soon.

What a brilliant idea!! The matches are very close in color!! Thank you so much for taking the time to show us that we do have alternatives to investing so much money into buying the Holbein pencils. This is quite helpful!! I’m going to place these alternative pencils into a small pencil box, along with a swatch sheet to refer to. I’m sure this will come in very handy while coloring in books requiring pastel colors. Thank you so much, Claire!! Again, what a clever idea!!

I was just trying to order the Holbein pastel set of 12 from Amazon Japan - unfortunately it is not deliverable to the USA. So I just typed up Holbein pastel equivalent and your video popped up!!!! OMG!!!! I am so thrilled!!!! Thank You Thank you!!! Perfect Hope you can find the time to do a comparison of the Holbein pastels with polychromos too!

Claire, I noticed exactly the same thing when I used my electric blue. I try to avoid using that colour if I'm colouring large areas.
Yet another great video. Thank you x

Thanks, Claire. Really helpful. Always find myself gooing back and looking at the Holbein set because I love the colors. Now I can look at my Prismas in a different light.

OMG Claire! You just saved me a TON of money!!! I was so swept away with the Holbein pastel colored pencils I saw in another video, I began my search online and was stunned by the cost at several art suppliers. Jackson's had them but the shipping was way to much to the USA.. Since I am only someone who colors for my own pleasure, not an artist who makes a living from my art, there was no way I could conscience spending that much. But I do have the 150 Prismacolor set so thank you so much for your demonstration! So happy I subscribed to your youtube channel.

I know I’m a bit late here, but for the record: YES! You are correct. Prismacolor’s Electric Blue does have a strange texture to it. It doesn’t blend or lay down well at all — grainy, as you said.

It is, in theory, a nice color…but whenever I find myself reaching for it, a huge wave a disappointment comes over me & I make myself choose something else.

I was going to just throw it away, but my neuroticism requires all 150 colors to be present and accounted for.

I have to agree. My Electric Blue seems to lay down an extreme amount of wax to the papers surface. I thought I must have been the only one to have a dud.

Thank you for doing this! I never really thought of checking with my prismas to see if they matched. You saved me $40! :D

My electric blue does the same thing for some reason. The video was very helpful, I recently colored a page using only prismacolor pastel colors so it can most defiantly be done. Keep up the great videos Claire! 😊

Lovely! Holbein pastels look so pretty. TY for showing us that we have plenty of nice pastels w/ Prisma. Anytime you are display groupings of colors, with your thoughts & ideas, it is always quite helpful for me. Also your videos have excellent staying power. I've been working thru a pretty 'fruits' picture by Lesley Smitheringale, & I referenced your tutorial many times! Plus your 'Fruits Worksheet' has been a real lifesaver!! Ty VERY much, Ms Claire. You are a gifted Tutor.
