The BIGGEST MISTAKE Artists Make When Blending Colored Pencils

preview_player
Показать описание
This is the most common mistake I see when teaching beginner artists how to blend colored pencils together for smooth gradients.

In most of my videos, I talk about the importance of color choices, layering, and keeping a sharp point- but I didn’t realize so many people were missing this very important step!!

OVERLAP YOUR COLORS.

The difference in the video is subtle, because I’m using Prismacolor Premier pencils and they tend to be more forgiving with bad techniques. But using the proper overlapping and layering technique will allow you to create much smoother blends, no matter what pencils you are using.

Check out my other videos for more tips on blending colored pencils, and please subscribe if you found this helpful!

Absolutely amazing Ms. Clark. I can't use color pencils anymore because the harder pressure hurts my hand, but I'm happy for anyone that can use this technique to the fullest. 😊

I was taught to use small circular motions because it makes the colors blend into each other better. It’s my go to blending technique. I can blend anything not just colored pencils. Such a great technique.

It’s not about overlapping
Just keep overlapping when you draw-

"It's not the brand you use..." Yeah, but it definitely bloody well helps. This is like rich people saying "Money isn't everything"

I remember feeling so smart when I learned this by myself in 2nd grade and nobody else knew the tactic lol

Oh haha! I was using colored pencils on a coloring sheet the other day, wanted to try blending to another color for a couple of the longer areas bc ✨fancy✨ and I did actually sorta do this on my own! Not quite the way you recommend here, but just using less pressure when I got to where I was gonna start the next color and trying to layer them both a bit

the brand might not be THE KEY to it but having a more blend-able pigment def helps, don't disregard how much the quality effects this process

I was given Prisma Colour pencils. When shading and playing around with them, I figured out to do this for softer shading.

I’m so happy I saw this…I’m doing a mural and I have to blend ( paint ) but before I’m mapping out and practicing blending more and this definitely helped!
