FAQ's
Q: What if my RAM is not removable?
A: Some motherboards will have RAM that is integrated into the motherboard. It is not easily removable. In that case, you would skip that test and proceed to the LCD test. A RAM problem for you would be the same as a motherboard issue :(

Q: What if all the steps seen here have not worked?
If so, and if none of those fixes have helped, your most likely looking at a motherboard issue or a component on the motherboard that would involve soldering to replace. Would you like help with that?

I'm trying to move the easier hardware stuff there so that I can focus on the more in depth troubleshooting and diagnostic videos here :)

Note to self... Use alternate electronic device when following video instructions. Trying to watch video with laptop upside down will not fix this issue. However it may be a sign of some other personal issues.

It actually WORKED!!
I’d tried everything I could think of and find short of taking the thing apart and replacing the screen. This video was a last ditch hope. It was the RAM after all and it just had to be popped out and back into place. I AM SO RELIEVED. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Hello! I suddenly just got this issue recently where everything turns on but the display is just black. My laptop's screen would turn on after a day or two of not using it, and the proces will happen again if I let it sleep or if I shut my laptop off. The weird thing as well is that when I shut the laptop down, it wont power off. The display will go black, but the fan and lights would remain on.

I was told that this is a Mosfet problem, where sometimes the power coming from the mosfet wont be delivered to power up the screen. I'm not so sure if he is accurate with it. Thanks for your time!

Great video. You do a great job breaking it down. I am currently studying Information technology and am researching a few troubleshooting scenarios and your video is a great resource.

Thank you so much!! I had no idea what I was doing, and decided to tinker because it's after hours for tech support. I ended up having to switch to another video when I got to the part where I needed to take a look at the RAM. The casing didn't pop right off after unscrewing, and I thought I'd break it if I forced it the wrong way somehow lol. Once opened, I used my phone to pick up where I left off watching your video. Lo and behold, I witnessed my little miracle just now, thanks to you! Blessing to you, sir. Liked and subscribed.

Hi! I found this video very helpful, my HP computer fell a short distance and ever since the screen has been black. I tried plugging it into a monitor and it worked, so I've been using it with the monitor ever since and just accepted that the screen was broken, but recently the screen of the laptop flashed on while I was working on the monitor, and it made me think that maybe the screen is fixable, you said that the issue is likely with the LCD or LCD cable? I'm not very knowledgeable with computers, and I'm having trouble finding videos on where the LCD cable is and how to try and fix it. I think maybe it just got loose from the fall?

Hi Thank you for your help. I took both ram boards out and tried them individually. Both of them gave a very weak start screen but then back to black. Do you think I should get 2 new ram boards?

Hello. My Dell Latitude E6440 turns on whenever I press the power on button but there is no display. It turns on on rare occasions after many long tries of pressing the power button, but it has recently stopped doing that. I have tried the following:

1- Removed the battery, removed the CMOS battery, held the power button for 30 seconds, reassembled both of the batteries back, and tried to turn it on, but nothing happened.

2- After the first try, many many attempts later of turning on the laptop, it pops up this error: Invalid partition table. Had to turn on UEFI boot mode after many tries of pressing the power button and getting into the BIOS.

3- Tried to turn it on, but the icons next to the power button do not light up, except for the charging icon in special cases. However, the fan runs like it has overheated. I have opened it up, cleaned the fans, and changed the thermal paste but yet nothing pops up.

4-I have done the diagnostic test, however, nothing seems to be wrong.

5- I also have tried to do the LCD test where I press the Power Button and repeatedly press the D button afterward runs perfectly, but still, it won't turn on.

6- I also tried resetting the graphic drivers using CTRL + SHIFT + WIN + B, but nothing works.

7- I tried to connect the laptop to an external monitor and tried the first attempt (removing the CMOS battery, etc...) but still nothing pops up. I tried changing RAM stick places, but still, nothing works. As time passed by, this issue got only worse.
At first, the laptop would need just a few tries of pressing the power on button and it would work perfectly, but now it gradually got worse where I had to press the power on button many times. Since this issue has persisted to me, I could not shut down nor restart my laptop (hibernation too), since it would just repeat the issue, I have been forced to keep my laptop in Sleep mode. Any help would really be appreciated!

Hey Bro Thank you! RAM was fried on my MSI laptop = black screen/no Bios/no response.
Tried everything and finally decided to go with swap ram since you mentioned most you got was due to ram.
and it worked like a charm!
