I owned a Hughes 300C for five years. One AD alone cost me over $5000. It was always $1000 here and $1000 there. EVERYTHING was expensive. Everyone has some BS deal for you to screw you out of $$$$. Leaseback? All they want to do is low ball the hell out of you. It was insane. Never again. I was one of the rare fortunate people that broke even when I sold it. The new buyer crashed it due to pilot error within 10 hours of flight time.

The Hummingbird is a great little helicopter, 4 occupants and quite inexpensive. Based off a Sikorsky I believe.

I have a freind with rich parents. He went to school, bought an R22 and got to 600 hrs and the jobs still sucked. If you can get a turbine then you're set. So ya, win the lottery first then you can have a nice average paying job as a helicopter pilot.

I have more money than the average "Joe" but a lot less than Elon Musk, so my question is what budgets would you set aside to run an R66 or a Jetranger for example.

Indeed, I agree with what you say but to be honest, the ones who can afford one on a budget usually do the maintenance themselves and work in the industry.

Helicopter ownership unfortunately is for the wealthy elite/ super rich. Flight schools charging is ridiculously outragiously for the greedy. Buying a chopper is outrageously expensive & bullsh#$%@ greedy for the price! Average Joes like me cannot afford flight lessions nor schools. for guys like me. . . . .its nothing but an extreme wildest disney land dream filled fantasy at the damn least, & its very discouraging & disapointing to say the damn least.
