As a self-aware NPD I'd like to say that Richard is absolutely correct. We make everything a competition. Even when we're covert, vulnerable, and super introverted. We're still grandiose. I used to compete with my partner regarding who had more problems. My autism is worse than yours, my parents abused me more than yours, my introversion is worse than yours. Even in complete vulnerability, we're still competing with the world. In our minds, we are "special" and different in some way. It's all shame based and we all compensate the same way: with our Ego.

This is how my ex-husband is. They distort everything and are just negative all the time. They're jealous when you're calm or happy. Such miserable ones. And they want you to be miserable like them. Get away from them asap

Hell yeah. A sibling actually said, " stop trying to one- up me." I was like, " huh!?" They also love to be heard and will get annoyed, irate, bored etc if you talk. You can't have a conversation like you do with a non- pathological type.
