I've been here 15 years. The hottest summer I experienced it got to 49 degrees for a few days back in 2013. I used to put my pillow in the freezer for a couple of hours before going to bed. AND I didn't have AC back in those days. Utter nightmare!

Where have you been shopping? Fresh strawberries, in Mellieha, where I live, are between 2 and 2.5 euro. Go to a small market. A lot of them are owned by farm families. I am able to eat things here that I gave up 10 or more years ago, when I lived in the States. Just bought broccoli and mushrooms yesterday. Like having diamonds and rubies, except they are edible. 40C may seem hot to someone who grew up in Britain, but it is normal for people like me. All a matter of what you're accustomed to. But I don't like the damp in winter.

Super sweet and found your post while looking at Malta for my next destination. Enjoyed your brief details on Malta, very informative. Have a pleasant time, Terra May!

I totally agree with you in every way. I too am living in Malta and I was born here. Nice review by the way.

as a maltese person i wish you would've talked more about our history cause like you said we have old temples from probably centuries ago but we are also known for being (i think) the most bombed place in world war 2 because we were being invaded by everyone and so we were getting bombed by almost everyone

I would add that its super easy to find British products especially sweets 😀 and M&S obvs! Also for cheaper food options, Lidl is amazing 😅

Where did you buy your strawberries from? If from supermarkets, then yes, they would be pricey, especially during off-season. But when they're in season you can find them for half that price at the farmer's market in Ta' Qali. They also sell plenty of locally grown produce for less than you'd find in a shop :)

Other cons:
- the petards during festas. These things are unbearable. It's like the Blitz. I dunno how old people don't have heart attacks cos you can feel the windows shake!
- the size of the island; it can make you feel isolated and claustrophobic
- lack of greenery/parks

Other pros:
- food portions at restaurants: very generous!
- history
- people speak English + Italian

Interesting. I have just visited Malta for the first time and I hardly saw any garbage on the street. For me, I found it very, very clean. It even reminded me of Monaco, at least Valletta

I assume that English is spoken everywhere since it was a British colony, correct ? What are the Maltese like, similar to Italians ? Is Malta safe ? How easy is it to deal with the authorities ?

Also I would like to add that from Lidl supermarkets you can buy a box of strawberries at 2.49 euro.

Perth in Western Australia sounds very similar regarding hot weather. We often get 88C-42C or sometimes higher.. during summer. Not much rain if any during summer. I’ve had a gut full of the heat. I can’t handle humidity so, I think if I go to Malta it will only be for a visit. My granny was Maltese.

I've lived here 10 years and have never seen Strawberries at €8 per punnet. Just today, €3.60! for a large punnet.

Do you feel sometimes bored because the country is small? And also does it rain a lot in winter?
