The pros and cons of a teaching career are explored in detail through this video. People looking to get started in a career in education need to see this video to get an ideas of what this job is all about. Some of the positives of having a teaching career include vacation time that is afforded to teachers during the summer months. Other positives include getting out of school at 3:00. Teachers have the luxury of tenure whereas individuals in other professions do not have this luxury. Also, don't forget that teachers get to actually use education they have learned in college. Then there are some of the cons, the negatives that come with a career in teaching. The negatives include the massive amounts of paperwork that comes with the job. Teachers are forced to meet the high expectations of standardized testing. Unfortunately, teachers are held to a higher standard compared to other professions. It is very difficult to deal with some of your students. Behavioral and Emotional students can really make life difficult for teachers.

Speaking as a teacher there’s no way in heck that we leave at 3. Our contract PAYS us until that time but in no way does anyone leave at that time! There’s too much paperwork to grade, lesson plans, meetings, messages to respond to from parents or conferences with parents or even phone calls with parents, never ending paperwork etc. etc. Most teachers I know myself included leave a good 1 or 2 hours after our contract to catch up in just one days work!

I just started my secondary education degree and honestly the pro that’s keeping me in it is the impact on students. During these times and this new generation they need someone they can count on someone who can help guide them to adulthood. That’s what pushes me is that I could make a huge difference in a young one’s life, that I can help them realize their dreams and how to achieve them

Teaching is among the most important jobs in a society, but the pay is.ridiculous in comparison to the responsibility and the necessary qualifications.
With the a comparable university degree you could rather start a career in business and earn twice or three times as much.
What good is it to be out of school at 3 o'clock, but having to work a second job?
Therefore, definitely not worth the effort.

Only in Germany and Switzerland teachers are paid a decent salary.

Let me tell something that I am a person who is normally bored in life and the thing is that due to traumatic childhood I didn't enjoy my school life and I was beaten everyday and emotionally bullied as a result I am not suited for jobs as soon as I see work load I get what you call PSTD that means some of my bad memories come back and haunt me which usually leads to bad day so I thought of becoming a teacher money isn't the only thing necessary having bonds and students whom you impact is also great and most importantly changing lives of people like me so they don't have to grow up like I did

I don't know where you guys live? But here in Dallas, Texas we get paid pretty good, $58k annually starting out with 0 years of experience and you can make mid $60k's after 5 years. If you can't survive on $58k annually you don't have a money problem, you have a spending problem and a debt problem. Live within your means and you'll be fine on that salary

Going to school for teaching is amazing. Spent 4 years in the army, until medically retirement, so I already get 4k a month from the VA. So the money was never the issue. I had already gotten an associates in writing paid for by the army while serving, So I decided to teach, a change of pace, and I love writing and reading others writing as well. The job just feels right. Also the army is paying for the bachelors in education so another plus. Being able to impact kids lives and maybe catch their interest in writing is my goal and why I love the future of teaching.

In New York where I live teachers can start off 80-100k if you start working outside the city in the rich suburbs but most start at 60-80k if they work outside the city

Who says a teacher can't be rich?

Just open a tuition in the evening and you'll be time & financially free in no time XD

In my district teachers are released at 4:30pm and starting bell at 7:55 am. That is not counting tutorials or morning duty and planning.

Your advice will undoubtedly help teachers navigate the job market outside of education more effectively. Well done!

We do NOT get out at three. That is when the school day ends, but I usually leave school around 4/4:30.

Great video. This career depends on what someone values. If you want stability and great work life balance it’s amazing if you care about pay and job growth it is very challenging

I'm a 17-year teacher. What I hate the most is when the market turns down, everyone wants to jump into education because it's relatively stable in economic downturns. But as soon as the economy improves, people want the heck out of education and into a better-paying job. 🙄🙄

Actually in California the teachers earn good livable money. Many of my teachers earn 4.2k-4.5k or even to 5k a month and it isn't even in an overly expensive city

I am in my last year of high shool and i have problems knowing which career I should choose now that i've told my mom i'm a little embarrassed to say it but i want to become a animator i wish to work in a studio where i can help make anímate movies, animes, cartoons and even make my own anime (i'm trying to make my own manga and write a book) i wish to do this because i wish that people would feel the emotion, the anguish, the story to be told but my mom told me that first i need to get a short carrer that would help me make money for living and will help me with the animation carrer, I'm thinking of becoming a creative writing teacher am I making the right decision?
I would appreciate some advice
