Can we repeat this a little louder for my parents who are sitting in the back.

Getting a BA in English has allowed me to teach abroad in Korea, China, Sweden, and Indonesia. With 10 years of very diverse experience (pre-school, grade school, college, pensioners, online, international schools, etc., etc.) I could get a job teaching anywhere in the world I choose to live. I've worked as a writer for a magazine interviewing famous musicians, and my degree also allowed me to commission as an officer in the Army. I've had a fun life, and many diverse experiences that I would not have had without majoring in English.

I was an English major. I now work for a large technology firm as a consultant. On the side I still pursue personal writing projects and love reading. You can do anything.

English majors are underrated! I encourage more people to do them! Especially with the amount you can do with them!

People should major in whatever they want :) the key is networking and doing something you love. Who cares if people say they are "useless."

I recently graduated with a BA in English, and I agree that it is absolutely worth it. However, I would strongly encourage any students who are English majors/considering English as a degree path to go one step further to make it a beneficial experience. Get involved in campus organizations where you can use your writing and communication skills (lit journal, newspaper, etc.) and get an internship (or a few). For English majors (even more than for some other majors, I would argue), it is important to explore career paths and figure out what you like doing because there are so many options available. Additionally, the skills you gain through putting yourself out there and trying new things are quite important when it comes to job-seeking. Yes, the classes themselves give you the foundation you need to succeed, but it is up to you to take advantage of the resources you are given. Don't be scared to try new things (you are capable of more than you ever dreamed!) and be prepared to invest extra time into extracurricular activities/work opportunities.

English degrees are also great for actors! understanding how to analyze text and understand interpretation vs intention. It has helped me so much and I’m applying to schools that have great theatre and english programs.

I decide to go back to college and do another degree. I’m major in English - literature and law to become a lawyer. As a person with English as second language I have been discriminated and bullied for my English. Well now I guess is time to overcome that

this is a sign! I don't have a single doubt about majoring in English, but my relatives, mostly, do. they think that taking up Education or Accountancy will give me more opportunities. I don't mean to belittle their opinion because I know that they only want what's best for me but I really believe that taking an English major will make me more competent and will help me widen my vision and such. I hope that when I'd go back to this comment after 4 or 5 years, I'd be the person that I've dreamt to be today. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

Yes. Absolutely love college classes even though I used to dread going to secondary school. It's different when you learn what you like. I totally agree about jobs. As a creative writing student, people keep asking "Oh, so you're going to write a book?" Yes I can, but I can also do the jobs you stated, we can also work anywhere because almost every company needs a writer. Be it for mass emails, newsletters, a website or a brochure! I'm so glad I chose to take a writing course.

I’m a junior in high school and the fact that I have pressure already to figure out what I want in my future such as colleges and majors boggles my mind because of my lack of confidence in what I really want to be. I truly have a strong desire of writing plus reading books. Books is my escape to everything in reality, my happy place lol. This video brought me a lot of reassurance to pursue with an English major considering a lot of individuals undermine the impact a major as this one can be beneficial in the long run. Thank you so much!!!❤️
