Maryland-America in miniature. Most of the negative stuff on this list is centered around the Baltimore/Washington part of the state. Once you get out of the B/W megalopolis it is beautiful. Mountains, Beaches, great food, rural countryside, waterfronts and more affordable once you are away from B/W.

Born and raised Marylander - video perfectly describes the state, especially about the taxes and aggressive drivers/traffic. Great video!

I’ve lived in Maryland for 30 years, and I’ll vouch for everything on this list. Terrible drivers. I’m sure we lead the nation in people driving under the speed limit in the left lane, passing on the shoulder, and suddenly crossing over 4 lanes to take an exit that is 0.1 miles away. Oh, and most of the people per square mile in Baltimore are dead.

Spent 35 years in Baltimore, and the past 6 years in eastern Oregon. When I moved, my living expenses dropped by 70%. Then a year later, I bought a house (paid cash) and my expenses dropped some more. If I never see Maryland again, I won’t mind one bit.

Extreme weather? That's silly as it's a mid-Atlantic state that does not get the extreme heat of the southern states or the extreme cold of the northern states. Bugs? Same answer. Maryland is not Maine, Alaska or Florida, which actually do have bug issues. Taxes? Maryland is slightly above average. Lots of churches? Hardly a problem. Limited transportation? The DC suburbs have the Metro subway, and Baltimore has light rail. There's a Maryland train between DC and Baltimore (MARC) and Amtrak on the same route. It's much better than most states. Cost of living? Slightly above average. Maryland has the highest median income of any state. It's a highly educated pleasant place to make a good living.

I've lived here all my life. This is a very accurate description of Maryland. It is a very expensive place to live. Think twice before you move here!

Born and raised in Maryland I left in 2021 and will NEVER move back. Outrageous cost of living, bad traffic, HORRIBLE drivers, dense population, and rising crime even with huge police prescense. Life for me is 10x better in Pennsylvania and more affordable!

I grew up in New Jersey & moved to Maryland in 1992. As far as driving goes, it feels like when anything starts to fall from the sky Marylanders forget how to drive. Also, we’re fond of the saying, “If you don’t like the weather, wait 20 minutes.”

I grew up in Maryland right near the Potomac river near the DC border in the 60’s & 70’s. It was such an awesome place back then. I left in 1995 but still go back every year to visit friends and I hardly recognize the place. It’s become so built up it’s crazy. Could never live there again but I do have great memories of growing up.

Those of us Marylanders who do not live in the Baltimore or Washington areas are used to being ignored. And we certainly were for this video. Any urban area in the country is going to have those same problems. Blue laws? The ones that affected shopping were repealed in the 80s. I assure you, we can buy gum on Sundays. If you learn nothing else about our beautiful state, remember that it is very diverse for its size, and has very distinct regions. Generalizations are kind of worthless.

Moved to Colorado from Maryland (spent all my life there) a few years ago and I don't regret it, surprised to see you making a video on us Marylanders.

I plan to retire at 62 in another country outside the US that is free, safe and very cheap with a high quality of life. I could fully just rely on only my SS if I wanted to when that times arrives but I'll also have at least one pension, a 403 (b) and a very prolific lnvestment account with my Abby Joseph Cohen my FA. Retiring comfortably in the US these days is almost impossible.

Having been a life long resident of Maryland and Mr. Briggs is greatly exaggerating many things. Most of Blue laws are gone. In Maryland, I live less than an hours from the Appalachian Trail, 3 hours from an Atlantic beach. the old line state is just fine.

Lived in maryland as a kid then moved back from Florida. Honestly Maryland grocery store wise is much better. The prices are lower than Florida and we also have rewards at grocery stores that get free milk eggs etc. Also car insurance is half as much as it was in Florida (went from Seminole county FL to Montgomery county MD for context). My income went up because MD pays way better than FL. At some point people are going to realize Florida isn't cheap any more and they match that with not having pay increases to keep up.

Born and raised in Maryland. I left in 2008 and never looked back. Life is better away from Maryland.
