I think what really did hurt him when he first went to United was the expectations for with with that fee. Realistically, he isn't a world-class defender, and he didn’t help his case by looking like he wasn't trying in most games. The fee wasn't his fault, but people always have high expectations for players when the fee is high.

I'm glad he hasn't let the negativity get the best of him, and I'm glad he has found consistency. I'd like him to leave United because that club jusy makes players worse, but I can't blame him if he wishes to stay for the money

Jokes aside I genuinely admire his mentality, I'm happy to say I've not jumped on the maguire hate train even during his worst as a United fan, this man has been on a crazy redemption arc and respect needs to be given.

I always thought the criticism for him was far beyond what was deserved, and it turned into bullying and trolling of unseen proportions. We've seen celebrities and footballers struggle to take such bullying and abuse online, and in some unfortunate cases, take their own lives because they can't deal with it any further. And this bullying is by the same people who would immediately preach about "mental health" when someone chooses to end their own life. I have so much respect for him for the way he handled it. He made no fuss on social media or in the press; just got his head down and waited for his chance to prove himself again. Absolute monster mentality and a player any club would love to have in their dressing room.

Maguire is perfect in a low block defensive set up. He thrived when United played counter attack.

He can hit a long ball over the top. He can bring the ball out of defence at times. Great in the air and a great attitude.

But he is not press resistant so playing from the back is not great which is also not helped by the lack of options in front of him. He isn’t quick/mobile so he is a massive liability in high defensive line features in more progressive systems. He also had a tendency to press the ball instead of dropping back and delaying the opposition from advancing quickly which is causes issues for the way Ten Hag wants to play.

I always liked Maguire from his Leicester City days and was sad he left for United, but I still wanted him to succeed.
When the bad spell happened and all i heard was the toxicity at Man Utd and how everyone was slagging him off, I held out hope things would get better. At the lowest point, I felt it would be better for him to leave Man Utd so that he could get a fresh start and flourish at West Ham, and become a great player again.

I genuinely am happy to hear he's persevered and getting back into his groove again.

Give that lot Hell, Harry.

I used to laugh at him, because come on, he was colliding with his own teammates etc, but now I saw him how hard he tried to turn it around and he actually did, I respect him more than most.

From a meme to arguably Manchester United best defender. Maguire has definitely come a long way.

in "that" period of maguire's career i liked him because i felt bad for the guy
looking back i feel like pity was a bigger insult to the guy
insane mentality to get back in the swing of things

I love Harry I hope he comes back from his injury soon because he's done amazing to get back in the team, and honestly, he's an amazing person on and off the pitch. Can't wait for his return!

I have a lot of respect for Harry Maguire. Has always been professional and plays to the best of his abilities when available. It’s not his fault he cost £80m.
