Good organizations have balance, but the will of the people has to come first. The person who's looking to advance the Just Cause needs the operator, but there has to be someone navigating the ship. The best C-level leaders know their strengths and how they contribute to the vision of the company.

A “finite mindset”, how dies that work? I’ve always been the pathfinder, so I cannot imagine. I need to hire a numbers person.

This reminds of me of the ever continuing battle between Accounting(finance) and Sales in big organizations. The CEO is 99% of the time a numbers guy and not a sales guy. Well the dilemma here is always which is more important and who really REALLY controls the company. Well of course sales does. Without generated revenue there is nothing to manage, control or to account for. The company shouldn’t be controlled by how to account for every penny as the company won’t thrive in new ways with that basis, it thrives on where do we go from here and continue to thrive in new areas. The CEO should be the sales guy, they are typically the creatives and the visionaries figuring out ways in the trenches to power forward and to acquire new business while continuing to take care of and grow current business. Organizations will always need the finance group, however I don’t think that’s where the ultimate vision lies for an infinite game. I truly don’t have a bias here, I’ve just witnessed these battles multiple times in several companies on the executive level. The operator/ Janice in accounting won’t build loyalty and followers behind her in the company mission. It’s more likely the charismatic outgoing and personable sales leader.
