Bad Transmission Mount Symptoms: 7 Signs to Look For

Bad Transmission Mount Symptoms. In this video I explain the common signs that your transmission mount may be failing. Bad transmission mounts can cause noticeable vibrations, clunking noises, difficulty shifting gears and other problems in your car or truck.

Recognizing these bad transmission mount symptoms early on can help prevent further damage to your vehicle's drivetrain. Replacing worn transmission mounts promptly can also avoid unnecessary repairs down the road.

In the first section, I cover one of the most noticeable transmission mount issues - excessive drivetrain vibration. You'll often feel pronounced shaking through the floorboard, gear shifter, or seats when accelerating if mounts are worn. Next, I discuss the clunking or banging noises that are indicative of bad engine/transmission supports. Worn mounts allow too much movement in the powertrain, resulting in abrupt knocking sounds when shifting.

Later in the video, I talk about how gearbox mount problems can make smooth shifting difficult or impossible. Bad mounts throw off drivetrain alignment leading to transmission popping out of gear and grinding noises. Excess engine movement during acceleration/braking as well as premature component failure are other symptoms I cover related to damaged transmission mounts.

Additionally, I outline some other issues worn engine/transmission mounts can create - fluid leaks at transmission seals, uneven tire wear from alignment changes, and warning lights triggered by excessive vibration. Knowing what signs to look for when your mount goes bad helps avoid cascade failures across other systems.

Towards the end, I demonstrate how to safely inspect engine and transmission mounts yourself when troubleshooting. I also discuss the repair process for replacing damaged mounts, noting that forward gearbox mounts often require more work. Being able to identify bad transmission mount symptoms provides early detection so you can get them replaced before problems get worse.

D max fury 2016, jerks every time i press or depress the accelerator pedal in 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears. Not so noticeable in higher gears. All readings zoom ok, fuel, engine, dpf, o2, plugs. Serviced, fuel filter replaced. Today checked the gearbox and engine mounts. Mechanic said let's start by replacing gearbox mount/s. Apparently there is only one. Engine mounts next if first didn't help. Will check the oil level tomorrow. Only 70k miles..

Thank you. Could a loose mount cause a misdiagnosed bad transfer case?

I have a 2009 altima, and I have a few problems myself, but as Im reading the comments I noticed one in particular about the rpm's jumping down, thats not normal when coming to a stop? When I get to about 25mph rpms stop going down gradually and drops down to about 1500, but you dont feel it, then when I get to about 5mph it drops from 1000 to 500.

Also my car doesnt do it all the time but when you play with it, it jerks very hard when shifting into reverse or drive.

Can a bad transmission mount cause a loss in power under acceleration? My car with a automatic transmission under full acceleration from a stop is supposed to shift from 1st to 2nd at 6k rpm and drop to 4k while still accelerating at full throttle, however mine drops to 3k under full throttle acceleration and you can actually see about a 5mph drop in speed as well since it’s dropping a full 1k rpm lower than it should be when it shifts.. I was told by a mechanic that I do have a bad transmission mount but was also wondering if that might be the cause to this acceleration issue..

Got a good question for you:
2012 Nissan Pathfinder V6 engine 4X4
Wile driving if you step OFF the gas and step ON in again the car/transmission will jerk.
Also when stepping OFF the gas when the RPM needle will jump real quick and then settle.
And when coming to a stop, the RPM needle instead of going down gradually, it will drop quickly from a 1000 RPMS TO 500 and then settle when fully stop.
P.S. at iddle the RPMS are normal.
Your take/diagnosis on this one?

Hey Brain, new subscriber here. I subscribed immediately, even before getting in to the meat of this video, cause he heard you pronouncing the most wiser, and controversial phrase in the universe of mechanics: " an honest mechanic" I know of this "special" mechanic that used that phrase all the time...." If you can find and honest and knowledgeable mechanic, stick to him like glue, cause in the universe of mechanics that an combination that is are extremely rarity. Thanks, and keep the(honest) good work!!!
