And don’t forget those aftermarket front axles on the W204. We just went through that on one;) Vibration due to the aftermarket right front axle. Same exact sensation as the worn engine mounts.

Short and concise! Great explanation. I've never seen any of my car technicians do this.

Well described. I replaced all four mounts about 3 months ago and now vibrating again. I will try your method to pinpoint the bad mount.👍

Great tip.

Since these mounts are essentially "wear items", I wonder why they don't show on the maintenance schedule for vehicles? I suppose their failure time doesn't necessarily correlate with mileage, does it? Most will have a schedule to replace the timing chain or belt (and ought to say have the garage replace the water pump while they have it torn all apart). I do think engine and transmission mounts are annual inspection points in my state, so they should be getting checked.

My local garage will do a $100 used car evaluation, and these, u-joints/CV joints, struts, and some other gotchas people never think of are on their list. They include a quote to mediate any found issues. They will also give you a deal on a baseline maintenance package so you're aware of exactly when the last time everything was done.

Seasons greetings Lou. Great diagnosis tip and one I could have definitely used in the past to remove doubt. Thanks Lou. 🙏

On mine, it was easy to diagnose.
Open the bonnet / hood
Start car
Put it in drive
Accelerate
Watch to see engine lifting up and hear BANG noise.
Both the front and rear on 1 side was broken with lots of movement (fixed now).
No more banging noises when driving.

Wow thank you so much for this video. I was able to diagnose the engine vibration on my Prius. As soon as I lifted the engine, the vibration and noise went away. Thank God it wasn't a bent piston rod, out of balance harmonic balancer or bad ignition coils. Woohoo!

Good video however - cars with Automatic transmissions are super easy to diagnose engine Mount's just open the hood stått the engine, placed it in D hold the brake while throttle the engine and watch the engine if it is moving, do the same in reverse again watch the engine.

Cars with manual tranny thia video is a real goodie thanks a lot man

I have a 2002 Odyssey and it pounds terribly going into 3rd or 4th gear.
It also clunks going into 2nd and 3rd gear.
So I drive it very softly and let up on the gas when it's shifting actually manually shifting is sometimes better especially when I'm in heavy in town driving.

My 2004 Grand Cherokee 4.7 does that on the passenger side when you jack it up the middle part moves all the way up its basically a Bluetooth mount I think that explains why the engines sounds louder(not ticking or knocking and not squealing) it has a rumble sound especially when you're inside the cabin especially when accelerating
